So, ....

What is going to happen with liquid under the new Medicare guidelines. Will they continue to fill after 36 months or will that be our expense?

Are you going to be allowed to keep your concentrator along with the liquid?

This is all getting way too complicted for my poor OD brain.

Hugs, Joyce

>> Had a long talk with my O2 company about going on Liquid O. They "think" they can get me two companion portables and a large home tank. They will loan me a travel tank that weight 95 lbs full. We all know that they will pay for 36 months then the equipment will be mine. I have been on 02 since 9/04 but medicare o2 since 2/07. If I had medicare 02 for 30 months and i was not happy with the service I was getting from her. So I went across the street to the other guy in town. He would be over joyed to get me a new concentrator, portable and liquid till he found that I had only 6 more months that medicare would pay. It would cost him $x,xxx to provide me all the new stuff, but 6 months times Medicare payment of $yyy would not equal his cost so he would not take me on as a new client. I sat the Marithon in the floor next to my chair and it froze to the carpet.. I don't know about this stuff.

The lady said if we spill it and stomp on it or a car runs over it, it could blow up... WHAT is that about?????

Peggy:

Ok.....first, when you're hooked up directly to the reservoir, the

oxygen comes out just like it does from your concentrator, except

purer and no noise.

Now, when you use the Marathon, the standard setup is coming out of

one side. The other side gets your exhale and tells the equipment to

send you more. However, there are cannulas for the Marathon that both

send oxygen and get the exhale from both nostrils. This might,

however, be even another reason to go from the Marathon to the

Companion 1000. In addition to being bigger it uses a traditional

cannula. Note also that Caire makes portable liquid oxygen equipment

that uses traditional cannulas.

Now you can on the Marathon switch the connection at the unit so its

coming into the other nostril for a while.

The lady was right but not helpful. A Helios Plus or Helios Marathon

must be either upright, on their back, or in between. They cannot be

turned face down or on their side. They will leak if that is done.

However, you can wipe the leak up with a towel (don't touch it) and

then refill. Yes, if you threw a match down where you just tipped it

you could probably set a fire if you tried enough but the odds of you

dumping it in the street, and then a car running over it and

exploding isn't very high.

Are there suppliers available to you other than Apria?

Were you happy with your oxygen before trying liquid and did some of

us perhaps convince you to do something you regret? Seems sort of a

backward crazy situation too the way they are setting it all up. It's

just very strange to use a concentrator at home and liquid out. Most

people who go to liquid, go to it all the way. Yes, its lighter and

that gives it an advantage on portability. But when you have the

reservoir there, why spend $40-50 on electricity for a concentrator

per month-yes it does use more than even your refrigerator. I'm a bit

surprised insurance or medicare let you keep a concentrator with a

reservoir.

As to freezing to carpet or anything, in addition to position,

especially when filling the unit its very important to wipe both the

reservoir and portable free of moisture. Also, they both have

moisture after, so if you're going to immediately set the portable

down on carpet, I'd probably use the towel and wipe it again.

One of my biggest complaints about Apria, in retrospect, is that

their training and providing guidance sucks. The fact you weren't

even told it only comes into one nostril and other things really are

making this more difficult.
