Guest guest
Dear Kay: Going off the prednisone that quickly could be what's causing your mood swings. Maybe you should wait a little while until you do the next drop. I would definitely wait until you get back from your trip before you make another drop. You'll have enough to deal with just being on the move, without having to deal with withdrawal. Whenever I would make big drops in my dosage, I'd always get real moody. Lots of crying and depression and then giddiness and rapture, then the bitchies. It's all part of the withdrawal. Just remember to tell yourself that it's the drugs doing this to you and not your regular state of being. Take care! Guest guest
Kay, My wife's doctor (Doctor Gordon at Lahey, burlington, Mass.)wanted her to drop down by 5 mg of pred every two weeks with monitoring blood tests in the week inbetween. She talked him into letting her drop by 2.5 mg evry two weeks and it worked out fine. She never had any withdrawal symptoms at this rate and might not have had them as well if she had also followed his initial instruction of 5 mg every two weeks (again pending the blood test results and his approval on the alternate weeks. She is now off pred completely and is now on a permanent 75 mg of imuran. Doctor said that many patients can not go below about 7.5 mg. Depends on the patient. My wife was " lucky " . Another Doctor at New England Medical Center said he can get about 80% of his patients off pred. Guest guest
> Don, my antibodies just keep getting worse. They have never disappeared. > How could something like that go away? Good question!! There is some speculation that the pred could be causing the antibodies to be suppressed. I've chatted with a number of Lupus patients who also have some of their antibodies fluctuate from positive to negative. I've come to accept that if it is abnormal, it's me. Hehe, remember Young enstein? Abbie Normal? Don
Guest guest
Wally, I was taking 5,000mg. vitamin C a day and backed off some after reading about bladder trouble. This has not happened to me yet however. I do believe the vitamin C keeps me from catching all the "bugs" from co-workers at the office. I am on an ultra potent C that also has some other stuff in it I get from my alternative doc. That is full of Vit.C, but I have gone off that. (cea). I want to go to the druggist and ask him how much Vitamin C I should have a day. I think the measley bit I'm getting in my one a day vitamins isn't enough. I will let you know when I see him. Everyone is different and all we can do is read and learn what others are taking, then regulate for our own body I guess. This is all mind boggling to me with diet and vitamins. I am so glad I got onto this group as you been very informative and honest with the ups and downs everyone has. Thats life, what works for one, doesn't another. Keep chugging along, Wally Wally, I am backing off some vitamin C after reading about problems. I got some flaxseed oil and keep forgetting to take it with my omega 3. Guest guest
Hi Kay, I know I'm not getting enough but this week I'll get in and see what I should take for my age group (63) in the Vitamin C. also some of the others I am on for cea. Reading up on the arthritis ( I see the doc tomorrow), I find that what I'm taking is what I need for both cea and arthritis. I guess I shouldn't be suprised Have a nice day all, I suffer in your pain. Wally Wally, I was taking 5,000mg. vitamin C a day and backed off some after reading about bladder trouble.
