Guest guest
ACTION ALERT: WE WANT CONGRESS TO SUPPORT STRONG FUNDING FOR THE NATIONAL INSTITUTES OF HEALTH!On February 6th, the Fiscal Year (FY) 2007 President's budget was released, proposing NO INCREASE in funding for the National Institutes of Health (NIH). This flat-funding of NIH, the nation's premiere research agency, amounts to a budget cut in light of the expected 3.5 percent increase in the Biomedical Research and Development Price Index (BRDPI) over the next year. It would also contribute to the undoing of the previous doubling of the NIH budget over the five-year period between FY 1998 and FY 2003 if this trend continues over the next several years. The President's budget is disastrous for NIH and for medical research. Congress needs to ensure that NIH receives the necessary funding to carry out its critically important research to benefit the health of the women and men of our nation. The Society for Women's Health Research, along with others in the medical research community, is asking for a 5 percent increase for the NIH budget in FY 2007. Please take just a moment of your time to contact your Senators and Representative and tell them to fund NIH at this level for the upcoming year. To identify and find contact information for your Senators and Representatives, visit www.house.gov and www.senate.gov.THANK YOU FOR YOUR SUPPORT OF MEDICAL RESEARCH!
