Guest guest
I understand that use of Avodart (dutasteride) is sometimes resisted because it’s only approved for tx of BPH (Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia). This, notwithstanding the fact that Avodart blocks the enzyme 5-alpha reductase from converting testosterone (T) to the much more powerful dihydrotestosterone (DHT). Here is a link to a New England Journal of Medicine abstract, “Effect of Dutasteride on the Risk of Prostate Cancer.†Over the course of the 4-year study period, dutasteride â€reduced the risk of incident prostate cancer detected on biopsy and improved the outcomes related to benign prostatic hyperplasia. " http://content.nejm.org/cgi/content/short/362/13/1192?query=TOC IMO, it’s an important step in the right direction for those medics who refuse or are afraid to think outside the box.
