Guest guest
You need to get back to your doctor pronto. If your doctor does not seem to be responsive, I would get a second opinion. One thing that was critical with perineal method is preop compete cleanout of the lower intestines and being on antibiotics some three days preop. I had that method of surgery and discomfort and pain is expected for the first few days. Has there been any visits from a home health nurse, and has your husband been given instructions on sitz baths? What is most of concern is drainage from from the drain site. In my case, the drain was removed day after surgery, and I do not recall any sensation of it. My healing was relatively quick and uneventful. Louis. . . . My husband is 56, and just had nerve sparing perineal prostatectomy. it is day 5 today, and he is not feeling that great...in fact more clotting today from the drain site, and lots of hemerroid pain. Had to take pain pill and tylenol today, and preparation H. He is feeling tired and dizzy, and no appetite. Does not want to go to the bathroom, as bowel movements cause more pain and bleeding too. Can't sit at all...and wondering if in 2 more weeks if he will be able to go back to work, at a sit down job. Any feedback from other who had this surgery? Gleason score was 6, we think cancer was contained, but will get results back in 2 days. ANy good ideas to hurry healing...or help it along. Guest guest
I'd say this would call for a visit with the doctor. There shouold start to be some (little) improvement. Is he allergic to latex? I am and the drains and sutures causes quick a bit of discomfort for a couple weeks. It should get better. Good luck and keep us posted. Guest guest
Thanks for your comments. My husband went back to the surgeon today, and he relieved him of a large blood clot that had formed into a hemotoma at the drain site. So this has helped a lot. Much less pressure, and pain! Now he is just trying to get the "uncontrolled bowel" under control! Doc said he could have developed an infection that results from the antibiotic enema they give prior to surgery. Whatever,...he is now on antibiotics and metamucil, yogurt and bananas! But still eating very little of this. He is still nervous about having the spastic colon attacks he had last night. His drain is gone. ANd he gets the catheter removed tomorrow! HOORAY! We will celebrate tomorrow!!Sincerely, The wife...(smile), To: ProstateCancerSupport Sent: Mon, February 22, 2010 8:44:39 AMSubject: Re: nerve sparing prostatectomy after care?
