When the urologist came to talk to hubby in the pre-op room, he told him he was going to use a new technique that he had been transitioning to for the last three months called "plasma vaporization". I think, but don't know for sure, that its brand name is TURis (needed a new acronym, right)? The doc said there should be less trauma, and he would also be able to get a prostate sample for a biopsy.

Here's a video of TURis being used:

Here's a brochure from the company that makes it. This .pdf file loads slowly, so expect a little delay:

I have to say, hubby's done well. He spent one night in the hospital. He was the last surgery of the day, and I was glad they kept him as he was very groggy from the anesthesia and didn't feel like moving. He felt fine the day after and is feeling fine today. There is some blood in the urine, but not bad.

The doc wants to take the catheter out on Tuesday. We'll hope now that all his plumbing works when the catheter is removed.

Thanks for all your advice. I'll let you know how things progress.
