Guest guest
> Gandi: the first link says that CR results in low body temp. That we > already know. You originally stated that lower body temp increases > longevity; I don't think that's the same thing. Francesca: Lowering of the body temp is *one* of the anti-aging mechanisms of CR, not the principal one. Arrenius discoverd that a decrease (resp. increase) of 10º C divide by 2 (resp. multiply by 2) the speed of a direct chemical reaction. In terms of longevity divide by 2 the speed of our chemical reactions would correspond to increase 100% the life (CR increases only 50%). But to achieve this, we will need to get 10º C more cold. We would live to 240 if we could combine this approach with CR. But we can't. We are homeotermic. Our temps are aways the same : 37º. CR makes you 1º colder. ******** BUT ******* The 1º would increase (proportionaly) only 10% in life. This is the main conclusion of what was said. -- Gandhi. Now for curious people: ---------------------------------------- Arrhenius Equation says that deltaG = - RT * ln (Keq) (equation 1) where Keq is the equilibrium constant for a chemical reaction: A + B <---> C+ D , that is Keq = [C][D]/[A] where [X] is the concentration of reactant X. The chemical reaction is favored in the direction of higer entropy, that is deltaG = deltaH - T*deltaS (equation 2) the reaction that is happening is called direct reaction. e.g.: A+B -->C+D. deltaS is the entropy. So: -RT*ln(Keq) = deltaH - T*deltaS If you increase temp, you decrease the term -T*deltaS and the equilibrium constant is increased. This implies that the direct reaction is acelerated. The converse is also true. --------------------------------- PS: I'm not a chimestry So if I made a mistake I can be apologized haha... Guest guest
I have always had a low body temperature. I think my normal is somewhere around 97.5. When I'm not well, it drops even lower. gloria
Guest guest
I have a normal body temp of 97.3 but it can drop to the mid to low 96's. I also have a low blood pressure but I find that it spikes way high, 160/118 during times of stress. It spikes so much my nose will bleed. I wonder if that could be from the Vioxx? Guest guest
My average temperature is high, too -- about 99 or 100 is normal for me. I agree with whoever guessed that it may be a characteristic of Still's, as that's my diagnosis. I often get " shivers " where my body temp drops a bit for no reason I can discern and I shiver so hard I'm practically shaking, but wrapping myself in layers doesn't seem to help because it isn't exposure to the outside air that's making me cold. In order to get relief I have to step into a hot shower until my body temp rises again. Heating pads and cocooning in blankets sometimes help but those methods take at least fifteen minutes and the hot water is an instant fix. Guest guest
I monitored my body temp for a very very long time. Off and on for years. Before I knew what the real cause of my problems was (Lyme and Babesia). I knew my weird body temp swings were a clue. I used a thermometer I cchecked against a claibrated thermometer at work, because I was surprised at how low my morning temp was, and how low in general I was (when I wasn't spiking a fever). A healthy persons body temp fluctuates about 1.5 degrees F win a 24 hr. period, with the lowest being in the morning. Even when exercising in hot weather, a normal persons core temp doesn't rise much above 99.0 (were not talking bike. Pre Lyme therapy, my morning temp was often in the very low 97'sand sometimes as low as 96.8 deg. F. It'd rise about the 1.5 degree during a 24 hr period, and often stabilize at 98.1 or 2... I was almost never 98.6 UNTIL it'd start to clim for my very frequent fevers, and then it would rise to 100.0 or 100.5, but mor often hang around 99.7 for quite a while (till I'd break a sweat and it's go back down). So my temperature fluctuations were about double (3 degrees) normal. I know now that this was the effects of Babesia... and the low temp. in general was proabbly Lyme (most bacteria likes those low body temps- probably the way we like air conditioning). But the point is (as it pertains to you) is that it's very common to have a lower body temp. in general VS the normal un-infected population.
