Guest guest
Snow, Chicken plucking was my job. I didn't mind that so much, but I REFUSED to clean them. My brother and my dad milked the cows and goats. The cream on top was 6 inches thick on a gallon of milk. Real butter and whip cream were regular parts of our diet. That's why I can't figure out where I got osteoporosis from. I've never taken steroids, and was brought up on milk, and lots of it!!! I only had the smaller animals to tend to. Yes Snow, that really was a different time. Sometimes it seems it really wasn't me. a ----- Original Message ----- From: " SNOWWHITE2000 " <mlamb1@...> < egroups> Sent: Wednesday, May 03, 2000 4:08 AM Subject: [ ] Hello All > Michele.......could the vioxx cause the swelling in my legs, feet, hands > and I do mean swelling??? Guest guest
The reason I asked is that I take Naproxen 500 mg. I can't say it's doing a lot of good though. The doctor also has me on Prednisone 20 mgs and Darvocett 100 mg when needed. I still feel pain. I'm not going to a Rheumy yet but a DO. Guest guest
It's an anti-inflammatory, so possibly your pain isn't caused by inflammation. It could be osteoarthritis, too. Most people who have RA have a certain amount of osteo also. The Naproxen works wonders for me - one, twice a day. Or, I should say it works for the inflammation-caused pain(my lower back, hips, etc). I still have pain, but I can definitely tell the difference if I don't take it. ----- Original Message ----- From: Joyce McCrary Rheumatoid Arthritis Sent: Saturday, September 18, 2004 3:11 PM Subject: Re: Re: Hello all Thank you . Guest guest
My PRP prescribed 500mg naproxen before I went to the rheumy. I asked my rhuemy if it was the same thing as otc aleve except for the strength. I told him I could get generic otc naproxen much cheaper than the prescription, and that I had no prescription insurance coverage. He told me I could take two 220mg otc naproxen instead of the 500mg prescription and it would work just as well. Sharon
Guest guest
APO-Naproxen, Naprosyn, Aleve ARE NOT THE SAME. If you have taken these drugs over the years you will know what I am talking about. The generics do not work... at least in my case and the name brands are ok. I use the enteric coated Naprosyn-E, which I find works not too bad. Aleve contains naproxen sodium, but is not the same as taking name brand Naprosyn or Naprosyn E. If you find that your Aleve or generic Naproxen is not working... talk to your doctor about taking Naproxyn, but be prepared to pay more for it. >From: "Joyce McCrary" <j.mccrary@...> >Reply-Rheumatoid Arthritis ><Rheumatoid Arthritis > >Subject: Re: Re: Hello all >Date: Sat, 18 Sep 2004 12:19:36 -0500 > >The reason I asked is that I take Naproxen 500 mg. Guest guest
Joyce, Get to a rheumy. Several years ago my PCP daignosed me with RA. I asked for a referral to a rheumatologist. He said that he thought he could manage my case. I insisted, so he complied. About 5 years later he told that I had been right to insist on the referral because he would not have treated me as aggressively. I have severe RA with joint damage but my rheumy has been able to control the disease process sufficiently that I have not had to have any joint replacement. Guest guest
Just wanted to tell everyone I go to my first Rheumy appt. on Monday @ 1:30pm. I am getting anxious. I need some relief from this pain. I think this is what is contributing to my depression. Which has been real bad lately. Lost interest in just about everything. I have to make myself get on the pc and check my email and post messages. I have to make myself pick up the phone to return calls from friends. My house work is gone down hill and you know what I do not give a damn. (Sorry) That is just how I am really feeling now. I find myself fussing with my kids over nothing. I get angry about nothing. I keep a terrible migraine. Which actually with the RA flare up in my neck that causes severe neck pain, which causes a headache then turns into a migraine. I do not know what to do anymore. Guest guest
Chronic pain is difficult to deal with and definitely takes an emotional toll as well. I would sit down with the family and explain why you are so frustrated, apologize for being so on edge and ask for their help and understanding while you try to get things on an even keel. Kids can be surprisingly understanding and helpful. Guest guest
Hi and welcome to the group. Sorry you have a reason for being here. What you are describing seems pretty common for early RA and for most people it does get better with good treatment. Many are given Prednisone (a corticosteroid) or a similar drug for fast relief of the symptoms but it does not slow or stop the permanent joint damage that often comes with RA and it also has fairly bad side effects when taken at high doses for long times. It usually does act quickly compared to most DMARDs (Disease-Modifying Anti-Rheumatic Drugs) because DMARDs usually take a few months to become very effective. I hope you are able to get something to make you feel better and ultimately to stop the progression of the disease. God bless. > > From: " coolcat102271 " <coolcat1022@...> > Date: 2004/10/02 Sat AM 05:17:20 GMT > Rheumatoid Arthritis > Subject: hello all > > Just wanted to tell everyone I go to my first Rheumy appt. on Monday @ 1:30pm. Guest guest
Anita, Sorry you are having so much pain. I promise that is truly connected to the depression. If you can ever get a handle on the swelling and inflammation, maybe you can get some rest and feel better. I remember at my worse times I was exhausted and could not get any rest because of the pain. I hope the doc will get you on something to help. I was also on anti-depressants a short time at first because it was an adjustment for me. But I did not take them too long. When the meds for the RA started working, I was better able to cope and start doing my own research and moving on with my life. Will be thinking of you on Monday. Guest guest
I know the pain that does things to your mind. I have felt that the only thing I look forward to these days is unconsciousness. I live this half life, in too much pain and with so much fatigue. Is life really worth living in this realm. It is a torture. Disintigrating from the inside out. Try a nerve block, get on a super happy pill from your doctor. Disability benefits are great except you cant use them when you are stuck in the house in bed all the time. Being a woman, I have it better damage wise because my estrogen protects me, but it also affects me emotionally and I am too listless to do much of anything. I force myself. That little voice in my head tells me just relax, feel sorry for myself, give up. You are too tired, too exhausted, too sick to do anything. You are a burden. Life has lost most of its meaning. I go to the beach and sit there, remembering that this IS all I get. I look at the blue sky, hear the seagulls swooping above me, grab a handful of sand that smells of salt and briney seaweed. My awareness isnt what it used to be. Reality is different for me and I feel more isolated and removed from it as each day passes. People pass me by, and it all seems to loud and too jarring. They are so full of exhuberance and take their enthusiasm for reality so for granted. I watch them walk away into the distance and I focus on the sound of the water against the rocks. I am like that tide. It sounds like my breathing. In and out. My mind, my body, my soul, hitting against the rocks over and over and over. Then I realize. This is the true rythmn of life. This is what life truly is. Taking one breath after another, one step after another, and go on looking into the distance, with just a glimmer of hope, just another grain of courage, another tear streaming down your cheek filled with sorrow and frustration, but a tear none the less. As long as I can think, I can feel, and as long as I can breathe, I can live. Guest guest
Hello there , Well hi there I've got the same concerns as you and and know your pain I use my computer for one thing to make frinds and chat I work on my bog my page get my mind off it have some little porjects to try and take my mind away from it , you say you got your SSD ? may I ask how long it took you I've been denined twice at a year into mine now , My neroloigost told me this morning to have my atterney to call him he had a case worked up for me ,,, he's a great guy he's still trying to avoid surgery for me I have buldgeing and heriated disc on all cervical levels and L5S1 is the one that gives me so much trouble , not to metion the RA , OA and the lung trouble now seems like it just keeps stacking up here but I'm sure things could be worse so try getting your mind on a few other things and see what happens . I'm so sure you'er not a burrdon on your family like you'er thinking familys love one another and are there for each other , sure they don't allways see eye to eye or get along like they are the happiest of all but when close that can be expected . It doesn't mean anyone is a burden or not liked or causeing exsesse trouble . so just take care and let them help you as they can and you do the same.
