Done it meself; it's why I hate Chicago. But I was just 18 and

was more embarrassed than anything.

Sounds as if all is well; even though you're a sorehead ;-)

Good to see you’re OK . Those

slip and fall head injuries can be very dangerous, so keep a close watch on

them. The last time I was concussed was years ago when we were training for

rugby playing a kind of Gaelic football in Zimbabwe. The grounds are like

concrete with a bit of straw on them and I went for a high ball and got knocked

flat on my back, hitting the back of my head pretty hard.. I stood up, ran

three steps and collapsed looking, so the boys told me, like a ghost –

they thought I was a gonner. I came to a few minutes later in the shade of the

stand and was taken to the swimming pool to cool down. I couldn’t remember

where I was, where my car was or where my air tickets were – I could only

remember that I was flying from Harare to Durban that afternoon

(apparently not a great idea for someone with concussion).

I slowly re-gathered my senses, found my

car and my ticket, caught my plane and then got one of the greatest shocks of

my life – my friend Uli stepped out from behind a pillar at the airport when

I arrived in what I thought was Durban. BUT….he lived in New Jersey, USA

and I was in Durban, South Africa….or was I? Had I

flown to the US?

Was my memory really messed up? Apparently I look like a stunned mullet until

Uli explained that he was on vacation in Durban,

coincidentally. What a relief.

I did find, as time went by that I had

lost some small bits of my memory though. Anthea and I still argue about two

films that I was meant to have seen in the weeks prior to the incident. I swear

I have not seen them: she can tell me which show in which cinema we went to!!

Hope you don’t lose anything

important .

..

All the best

Terry

.... that whilist caring for our known afflictions, it is important to

beware of the other things that can catch us out unexpectedly.

This week we have had lots of snow and ice in the UK. Leaving

pavements quite icy, so we were about to finish business in our local

town (Selby) and I went to collect my car from the car park. Half with the intention

of picking Maureen up in by a supermarket. Going my merry way I remember

putting out my foot and slipping, immediately hitting my head on the pavement.

I remember only bits of the next few minutes, though I had been taken

to sit in a clothes shop, I must have dialled my wife on my mobile phone,

someone had rung for an ambulance, at which point my memory returned .

Fortunately my woolly hat had saved my had from cuts and grazes, the paramedic

decided though that I needed to be checked at York Hospital.

I was discharged from Accident and Emergency about 3 hours later, taxi service

provided by my youngest daughter and her husband, and Maureen driving the car

home, when we got back to Selby.

She was issued with a leaflet, to watch for symptoms that may

develop, it seems so far that all I will be left with is a sore head, but it

could so easily have been adifferent story.

The paramedic acts at rugby games and he said it was a typical

concussion caused by the kind of clashes in that game. So at 64 I've taken up

skating in Gowthorpe, Selby, with no great success.!

Hi :We're all glad that you are OK, but, as Terry notes, do pay attention to any and all symptoms for the next few days....the National Health Service is your new best friend this week.Darryl

Well, it appears you survived your “rugby match” and your humour is still intact! Take care, friend , and give my regards to Maureen for putting up with you all these years.
