Guest guest
Jim, Since you came out, I'll come out too.....I don't use 02 when I sleep either. I did have a sleep study done about a year ago and my saturation never dropped below 96. But, I don't sleep well like you do. I honestly start out with it in my nose but wake up without it. I've been on oxygen 4 years and rarely sleep with my oxygen. Good thing? Not sure. Maybe I would sleep better if I used it. Leanne james wallman wrote: Thanks for your response!! You are right....about several things. Yes, I mean pulse, and I'm only on it while I'm away from home. While at home I'm on continuous, maxed out at 3 with an oxyimzer. I, too, need less when continous. And the portable (pulse) is maxed out at 6. I think it has everything to do with deliveries where I am, I've been worried that in order to stay up in the 90s I'll have to go to a totally different system. Sleep? I don't use O2 when I sleep. That's a big mistake, eh? I read that alot of you have had sleep studies. All through this ordeal I've never had a problem with sleep, read for 10 minutes.....zzzzzzzz, and stay asleep. This is even when on 40mg of pred. So I guess I'll need to have my wife put the oximeter on my finger while I sleep. Seeing as how the docs are not reacting to the low sats, I will email my O2 supplier in Anc. He's an RT and a good one. While youre returns quickly you say, I've been told to try to avoid letting it drop to start with and 76 to 80 is way too far as long as you have room to increase flow and perhaps avoid it. Even at my low levels, my needs vary by as much a four liters from resting to treadmill (using the extremes). Also, I do generally require more on pulse or intermittent than I do on continuous flow. I'm assuming by intermittent you mean pulse? I find that very unusual when at home or resting. Normally its used for mobility to conserve. Now, it may have to do with deliveries where you are. I hope you're on continuous for sleep as your breathing patterns change significantly. I have never heard of pulse being used for sleep.> > >> > > Hi all, > > > > > > First off, I haven't read any posts since last night, but was > > > wondering has anyone heard from Joyce or Irene yet? Guest guest
If your saturation doesn't drop, no reason to use it during sleep. You're rare. I would suggest periodically (maybe annually), not another sleep study, but just an overnight oxygen recorder. Simple, every oxygen supplier has them, and easy to get doctor to prescribe a one night recording. Obviously if one has severe drop in oxygen, that wakes them and interrupts sleep, but most sleep problems are not related to drops in oxygen but are obstructive in nature. Thats why CPAPs and BIPAPs to force air through. In my case, there is no evidence yet, although my last sleep study was so flawed who knows, that lack of oxygen affects me sleep. The oxygen issue is just that I'm under 90% over 25% of the time and therefore am risking organ damage. Just as I'm alarmed everyone doesn't get a six minute walk in a routine physical, I think it should be routine to recheck oxygen levels during sleep on oxygen users, even those using it during sleep. It's the one time our finger oximeter doesn't help us and the overnight device is cheap and easy. > > > > > > > > Hi all, > > > > > > > > First off, I haven't read any posts since last night, but was > > > > wondering has anyone heard from Joyce or Irene yet?
