Cancer information site -- Interesting for starters.

Interesting for starters, and well worth a look around. However it is a bit superficial in the areas I personally feel competant at judging, lacking depth of detail. The black background gives it a somewhat dramatic, Gothic look. Not everyone's cup of tea (if that is the right metaphor >:-O )http://about-cancer.yolasite.com/For detailed information about prostate cancer causes (and other hormonally related cancers) including possible treatment avenues that go beyond the two most common ones (antioxidants and hormonal therapy), see:www.fitcare.org.ukSammy

Apropos 's comments regarding commercial content of web sites.

Just to avoid confusion about " commerciality " (what a delightful phrase)can I

make a plug :-)

I have written about alternative approaches to PC since 2004. I have always

invited interested parties to read and comment on the material. No holds barred.

My books have always been available free to anyone prepared to offer a serious

review. That means good bad or indifferent - I am not in the business of

censoring opinion. However, there are conditions which have evolved over the

years and I think they are reasonable conditions for reasonable people.

As I said, > For detailed information about prostate cancer causes (and other

hormonally related cancers) including possible treatment avenues that go beyond

the two most common ones (antioxidants and hormonal therapy), .....

..... read the book.

I believe my approach takes prostate cancer away from the " castration

cognoscenti " - those who have turned Dr. Huggins' 1940's schoolboy discovery

into an art form.

There is a third way. It has been staring us in the face for a decade or so now.

And of course, with my numbers, if hadn't been using it then I wouldn't be here

to tell the tale.

... another " schoolboy discovery " ? Let's see shall we.

Sammy.

....

I'm also of two minds about commercial content on cancer

websites.

The website we are questioning: http://about-cancer.yolasite.com/

has a fair number of advertisements, and also a fair amount of

content. It's not bad content. The website is not one of those

that has virtually no content, just ads.

But there's also another way I look at sites like these. One of

the things I often do is extract a phrase from the website and

use it to search Google. I want to find out if this is original

content or not. There are a shocking number of people who copy

all of the material from some source, put it up on the web as if

it were their own, put in Google Adsense ads, and spam newsgroups

like ours to get people to visit the sites and click on the ads.

When I searched for phrases from this website I kept coming up

with hits on the Google Books pages.

Everything I found, and possibly every single word of the whole

website, comes from the book _Medical Surgical Nursing_, by B.T.

Basavanthappa, published in 2007. There wasn't even any editing.

It's a straight copy. However, I don't see any attribution to

Basavanthappa.

In other words, it appears that the " author " of the website

picked up a textbook, maybe from a library, and just copied pages

from it into HTML and put them up on a free server with Google

Adsense ads. Then he joined every health or cancer oriented

group he could find and posted an identical message to each one

urging people to visit this wonderful website.

I wouldn't be at all surprised to find out that he's busy right

now copying out pages from books on other subjects to attract

more ad hits. I bet he's making a decent living at it.

I know there are different attitudes to copyright in India than

in the U.S., but it seems rather dishonest not to even say where

the material came from.

So my thumb pointing down on this website is a little more

emphatic than my thumb pointing up.

I also note that he hasn't posted any actual message to the group

other than his advertisement. He hasn't responded to any posting

by any of our members to offer advice on cancer. I doubt he

reads a word of what we say or could care less.

I won't be surprised if his ads come to us on a regular basis

from now on.
