(The first time it happened to me, I > wasn't strong enough. I ate the illegals, and had blow-out diarrhea > as a result.) Yeah, I find this very hard. I've hardly eaten out in the last 9 months, but on one occasion I did, I also had a horrible reaction to the food, even though the first time I ate there I had been fine. I wondered afterwards - it wasn't noticeable while I was eating it - if they had marinated the salmon in something sweet before preparing it. I thought I had been clear but realized in retrospect I stressed flour above sugar, etc. The next time, a different restaurant, I was clear to the waiter, but he obviously was not clear enough with the kitchen staff, so my salmon and steamed green veggies came covered with the sauce I had requested they leave off. I was torn - I was with the family party of a friend and her daughter visiting NYC and staying with me - and didn't want to make an issue of it since it wasn't my party, etc, - not to mention sending the food back always ruins the rhythm of the meal. So I didn't send it back. Fortunately it didn't have a noticeable effect. But I had some probiotics when I got home and later on, before bed, I had some drops of oreganol in water to squelch those excitable evil bacteria. (The sauce was delicious, but I suspect it had some flour in it. Oh well. I tried eating around it.) Dealing with restaurants, it's a work in progress. You're always revising how to deal with it based on your experience at the prior restaurant. Mara
