In Feb of 95 I went to MUSC and had my first stent.By the second week it had shifted and caused more pain and nausea, so they took it out. I repeated the stent in May of 99. Basically, we just have to do what we can until the ducts occlude again and have to be reopened. When I was in MUSC in May99, the doc told me that if I continued to have trouble keeping the duct open, surgery was next.Don't know what kind...too afraid to ask. As far as how much I eat, I can have about 1/3 of what normal peolpe can eat. I try to graze all day and just snack. When I try to eat a full meal, I feel very bloated and uncomfortable. I can get probably a cup of food at a time, which is better than what you have to do. Well now that I've babbled on...I usually end up having days where I fast or eat just crackers or toast. It just depends on how the day is going. You're right...it is a terrible way to live. I have even asked God to let me die...but He won't. So I must be here for a reason and I trust He knows what He's doing. Diane Truly, truly I say to you, unless one is born again,he cannot see the kingdom of God(3:3) >> Hi Diane, you are doing much better than I am with divisim. Stents don't keep my duct open when they are removed. The first 7 days of a new stent I can eat one-third of a meal. After the 7 days I shut down and am not able to eat anymore. How well did you eat with the stent in? Did you have Dr. Cotton at SC? Do you get bad pancreatitis very often and have to go to the hospital? I would also love to know if any others in the group get sick on lipids in tpn? You sound as though you can eat enough to nourish your body. That is so wonderful. The doctor in Indy. said that they are thinking about using steroids for the ducts in the future. I take it as a new experiment thing to see what it will do for divisim people. I have so much scar tissue in my duct and after a while the scar tissue closes the duct completely. That's when I get pancreatitis for no reason. No eating or anything to cause it but the scar tissue. There has to be a better way to treat our disease than stents. A surgeon told me that I have been over treated with stents. He doesn't believe in them. He says they cause so much damage which results in cp. I am the youngest of six children and I was a change of life baby. I spoke with a woman the other day and she was the youngest of seven children and a change of life baby also who has divisim. Strange, I wonder being a change of life baby has anything to do with divisim. Sometimes I think with all the medical profession can do for hearts why can't they do something for divisim. I know this is silly but I sometimes think if they could put a little tube in our pancreas to connect the duct is divided that would fix us up and why can't they. If divisim or cp were as common as heart problems we would be well right now. If only! Thanks Debbie for information and I hope I haven't bombarded you with too many questions. I just recently found that out for myself. When I came home from my hospital stay last year, I couldn't walk from being in a coma for so long, I couldn't talk from the trach I had, my ex-fiance had left me and took all of my savings, and to top it all off my ill brother passed away while I was still in a coma. I couldn't understand for the longest time why in the world God would let me come back to a life like that. I was very angry for a long time and then everything started coming together for me. I met an old flame of 18 years after being home 2 months and we were married in March of this year. There is my purpose! There is a " master plan " that he has for each and every one of us I am convinced. I went to my eye doctor the other day and they had a sign in their office which read: " To the world you might be one person, but to one person you might be the world " I thought those were beautiful words to live by. Hugs to you, (Indy)
