Guest guest
Well I just wanted to thank every one that got back about my biopsy. I have to say it sure has helped a lot. My specialist has said I don't need anything for pain as the rectum doesn't know or feel needles. So not sure what is going to happen there. He has said he has done tons of them so hoping he is right. I should also mention here that I am from Northern Ontario Canada. We live way back in the middle of nowhere really surrounded by bush, in a small town called Port Loring. Great spot to be with nature let me tell you. This fellow suppose to be the best specialist just he hasn't got to much of a bed side manor that's for sure. In and out no more than ten minutes set in his ways, around I would say 48 or so. Also he said there is nothing else one can do without a biopsy right now. Sooo that is what I am going to do now, it is booked for March 8th so guess it is just a waiting thing now. You folks have helped relieve my mind for a lot of parts just that bottom line is I am scared, scared of biopsy, scared of not knowing just plain scared. Over the years I have been pretty good with pain have dealt with it every day of my life as I have some other things happening also like hernias you name it. Just been to scared to get them fixed. I know one would think, man what is this fellow thinking. I guess it might stem back many years ago when I woke up while they were doing an operation and it wasn't nice. Never had anything done since. Seems it has never left me and I just have a major hard time excepting anything to do with doctors or hospitals. Up here where we live we don't have to many options of what doctors we see as the town we live in only has a nurse practitioner, a doctor does come in once a month and he was the first to find the hardness and sent me along to the specialist. Again thanks so much for sharing your experiences it has helped immensely. Now I just have to get my mind on other things, other than bad things and get on with my life. Not easy as I know you all have been up that road. Thanks !!!!
Guest guest
Seems to me anyone who thinks the rectum doesn't feel pain has never been constipated for a few days, but, , you've made the right decision. I'd endorse the valium and/or aesthetic. I can still feel every one of those 12 sticks. But without it you'll never know what's going on. Good luck! Hope it's nothing more than benign prostatitis. Guest guest
>>> My specialist has said I don't need anything for pain as the rectum doesn't know or feel needles. So not sure what is going to happen there. <<< Maybe _his_ rectum doesn't feel needles. My rectum sure did - and that was _with_ local anaesthesia ! The anaesthetic injection itself hurt a bit, but the operator said: .. . . The biopsy needles will hurt a lot more, if I don't .. . . give you local anaesthesia first. Once the local anaesthesia took hold, the biopsy needles weren't bad. It's not long-term, or severe, pain; you can deal with it. Why don't you make your doctor this offer: .. . . " If you do mine without anaesthesia, I get to do yours without anaesthesia. " If you have any way to _force_ him to use local anaesthesia (like having a GP _order_ it), use it. PS -- I'm in urban BC. I sympathize with your problems " out in the bush " . PPS -- if you have something the doc can feel, a biopsy is a good idea. Could save your life. > > Well I just wanted to thank every one that got back about my biopsy. I have to say it sure has helped a lot. Guest guest
, I'm not sure why your doctor is mentioning your rectum. The needles aren't going to be stuck into your rectum, they are going to be stuck into your prostate and that is where the pain will be. The local anaesthetic should be injected into your prostate NOT your rectum. I think your Doc should explain things better to you and if it was me I might be concerned that he is sure he knows what he is about to do - ask him how many prostate biopsies has he carried out before.
