Guest guest
When I had my op 9 weeks ago, I believe one of the things my surgeon told me was that the same factory make both versions of the hip replacement with a slight variations, though I do not know what the variations are. At the end of the day, I believe you have to leave it to the surgeon to decide which is best for you. I don't think cost comes into it. I may be wrong but I believe both cost the same, about £2,000 in UK. Joe R BHR or Cormet2000 ? Advice needed! Hi All - I need your advice: The resurfacing surgeon in Germany said he will either implant me the BHR or the Cormet. He said the Cormet is the same as the BHR. Is this true? I mean, why the hospital has both on stock if both are exactly the same? One reason for providing both might be one of them is cheaper (and better for their budget) or one of them has other sizes or features so they can decide from hip to hip. Does Mr.McMinn have a patent for the metal/metal metal resurface system (I understand he has invented this system or am I wrong?) and if so did he sell the patent to the manufacturer of the Cormet or did the Cormet manufacturer made a similar thing? If last possibility, there might be differences. It is hard to see on the Corin homepage if the acetabulum part of the Cormet has the same surface as the BHR. Did anybody of you has been offered both the BHR and Cormet? What would you do? Which one would you take? Or leave it up to the surgeon? I would appreciate your help! This is not true, they are made by separate companies, Corin and Midland Medical Technology. Both of the UK. Since this is a good question, I sent a questionnaire to all the manufacturers asking for details. So far, only Corin has responded, their answers can be found in the " Files " section of surfacehippy. The differences are mainly in the acetabular component. The BHR from Midland has a cast dimpled surface which is coated to promote ingrowth. Corin uses a sprayed titatium coating to add texture for ingrowth. The device (US manufacturer) has a sintered cobalt chrome texture. > At the end of the day, I believe you have to leave it to the > surgeon to decide which is best for you. From the information that is out there its hard to tell, which, if any are significantly better or worse than the others. Some details such as the machining precision could be as important as others. Also the skill of the surgeon in getting a good fit is of course important -- this could also depend on the instrumentation that goes with the device for machining your bone and otherwise installing the parts. You'll want to go with the model the surgeon can get a good fit with. Hope that helps and good luck, -
