Guest guest
Hi Dawn I was Diagnosed with PM in 12/98 at age fifty, UIP 8/00. My Doc's were also looking for PF and found it early. I have been taking Prednisone since 98 to stop the PM flares. It does have a lot of side effects like Ty 2 Diabetic and weight gain. If you keep from having flares it supposedly slowed the progress of the PF. Guest guest
Hi .....a fellow PM sufferer! May I also ask if you carry the JO-1 antibody? I'm thinking you must since the Dr's. were looking for the PF early on, in your case. With me, they never seemed to give the JO-1 another thought, unfortunately. When I was first diagnosed with the PM in 2001, I was on 60 mg. of Prednisone and was on that for a good long time (along with Methotrexate) and after a couple years, started tapering and then discontinued my Methotrexate. Once my PM was under control, I was just taking 5 mg. of Prednisone to keep the PM in kind of a drug-induced remission (along with lots of muscle relaxers and Morphine for pain...which I'm still on). Now that my breathing has gotten so bad, I am back up to 40 mg. of Prednisone. Not sure if that will be increased more once I see my Pulmonary Dr. again. I know very well about the side affects of Prednisone. Aren't they grand?? LOL! A couple years ago I lost 80 lbs. (some of it Prednisone weight and some of it pre-Prednisone weight...ha!) and managed to keep it off for a couple years. Over the past 6 mths. or so, I have gained back 40 lbs. I feel terrible about it, but as my husband says, I have bigger things to worry about than that. However, it still bothers me a great deal. How much Pred. are you taking? Do you take another drug, similar to Methotrexate, as well? Thanks, DAwn > > Hi Dawn I was Diagnosed with PM in 12/98 at age fifty, UIP 8/00. My Doc's were also looking for PF and found it early.
