Arthritis Diet Books

Joyce asked in an earlier post if there were any books on diets for people with RA. There are quite a few books out there that deal with diet and arthritis, but so far I have not found one for RA specifically. I own "Eat to Beat Arthritis" and another book that I can't remember the name where all I am supposed to eat is fish. "Eat to beat Arthritis" seems to have great ideas in it, but I have not taken the time to try it out. I know that there are many other books out there with recipes and diet ideas of what to and what not to eat. I have come across a few that try to make preparing meals simple, but use foods that in the end would make us gain weight.

I suggest going to Chapters or another large bookstore with lots of selection and read through the Arthritis Cookbooks and then go over to the health section and check out books like "Eat to beat Arthritis" and see what is out there.

I haven't looked for arthritis specific diet books, but I'm sure

there are many in existence. One thing to remember is that the term

arthritis encompasses a large number of diseases, and what may help

one in terms of diet (gout for example) may not help others (like

RA). RA affects each of us so differently (and responds to

different meds with each of us) that there's not one diet that will

help everyone. There are also so many 'old wives tales' about what

will cure arthritis that you really had to be careful.

The best advice I've heard regarding diet is to eat as healthy a

balance as possible and try to keep your weight under control (which

is easier said than done for many of us when exercise is hard).

Personally I haven't found any particular food which causes flare

ups, or that if I avoid it I feel better. However, I'm really happy

for those who have found that avoiding or eating certain foods helps

them.
