Guest guest
Hi Kim I've also had alot of hair loss. I take Biotin daily but that doesn't seem to be helping either.
Guest guest
Kim, Hair loss is common with any sort of weight loss. Two supplements are particularly good for this. Biotin and MSM. Beth in Georgia advocates 3000 mg of MSM and 3000 mcg of biotin a day. Terry
Guest guest
Though I haven't experienced any hair loss yet, I remembered reading something about it at the Atkins Center website last night. Here it is: (the left side is the question, and the right side is the answer) I've noticed some hair loss while I've been on the diet. Why? What can I do? You may be deficient in one or more nutrients. You may wish to try adding supplements to your diet; I have found high dose biotin, L-cysteine, and lecithin to be helpful. Another explanation may be that your thyroid function is dropping. First, make sure you're not restricting calories or skipping mealsù this could be the cause. If not, check oral temperatures 4 times daily for 2 days. If the average temperature is below 98 degrees, you should see your doctor about starting animal-based, not synthetic, thyroid. Hey everyone! I have a question about this WOE. I have only been on Atkins for 4 months and I am experience alot of hair loss. I take a women's multivitamin, atkins essential oils, and calcium everyday.. twice a day. Has anyone had this same problem and is it something to worry about. Anything anyone could tell me would be appreciated. Thanks! Kim C.
Guest guest
Well, while you're losing hair, let me ask you a couple of questions: 1) if you comb your hair straight back and let it start to dry, do you have any wispies around the edges? (i.e. new growth) 2) Does your hair seem drier than usual? (split ends/breaking) If you are having a lot of new growth, it's probably just a result of weight loss, which is typical. If you do have dry brittle hair, I recommend you look in the health & beauty section of your local k-mart/wal-mart or drug store (if you have a Sally's beauty supply go there) and buy a jar of cholesterol. (really! it's not as gross as it sounds, it's like lotion for your hair, it even smells good) Give yourself cholesterol treatments three times per week until your hair starts feeling better and then back off to once per week. Another thing you should do is change your shampoo. If you have a salon that sells nexus products they do have a biotin shampoo to assist with hair loss. You don't have to spend that fortune though, you can also try horse shampoo (I KNOW!). A popular brand is called mane and tail. These work well because they're full of vitamins and proteins that will help stimulate your scalp and encourage hair growth. I am not sure where you can find this, but I've seen it at the occasional k-mart and at big lots. Also, supplements, I recommend you invest in a combination of biotin and msm. Guest guest
Robin, I had bypass gastroplasty back in 1993, and I began to regain after a while. I lost what I'd regained using Atkins (30 pounds plus 10 more), and that's the WOL I've been living ever since March 16, 1998. Terry

BTW, I got a call this morning with the pulmonologist app't. May 13. Had no idea it would take that long, although it took me 4 months to get in to see the rheumy the first time. Guest guest
Colleen, I think PLS may have contributed to this. When I broke my toe, the one next to the big toe, on my left foot, the toes on both feet began to contract even more. When the toe healed, the right foot still contracted pretty badly, especially the 2nd and 3rd ones from the little toe. I have to massage them at least twice daily to keep them loose. I have to do this to both feet or the left will act up occasionally. Guess it wants its attention, too. I can only attribute to spasticity, but my neuro told me when he first saw me that I had " hammer toe " on both feet. It has eased up, but apparently comes back occasionally. This, he says, is related to PLS and the spasticity. Guest guest
Tammy, Tangling: Instead of a 50 ft. tubing, use two 25 ft. lengths. Join with a swivel connector. Also where the cannula attatches, also use a swivel connector. That helps some. Guest guest
Hi Tammy, I don't manage to keep my tubing from getting tangled up! The best I manage is to straighten it out of a night before I go to bed, but I'm quite sure that the moment I go to sleep it has a party on it's own and ties my slippers to my book! My hobbies are crafting, history (I'm a 17th Century re-enactor) and food. Anything to do with food growing it, where it comes from, how to make it and what it tastes like Love Ze xx>> how do u manage to keep your tubing from getting tangled up?> > and what are everybodys hobbies? mine is reading and crocheting>
Guest guest
Mine gets tangled....so I jerk and break it loose. I think one thing I did learn early is that the tubing is a whole lot tougher than it looks. I thought stepping on it, getting it caught, jerking on it...all would destroy it. I haven't yet been able to damage any. Now, the swivel I sometimes clip to my waist....those I do damage and go through. > > > > how do u manage to keep your tubing from getting tangled up? > > > > and what are everybodys hobbies? mine is reading and crocheting > > >
