Migraines - ugh! I used to get them at least once a week. Then I found

a new medication called Zomig. It stops em cold. At the first signs of

a migraine, I take one, wait an hour, if the migraine is persistant, I

take another, and PRESTO, it's gone! I have never had it fail to work.

It's a miracle drug as far as I am concerned.

Also, you might consider this - I found out what was setting off my

migraines. It's a product called carageenan. It's found in puddings,

gravies, ice cream, toothpaste, some instant drinks, Slim Fast, anything

that is really smooth and creamy. Check the labels. If I avoid foods

like this, I am ok. I haven't had a killer migraine in months and

months. So, if you're one of those people that get ice cream headaches,

it might be the carageenan. It's some sort of seaweed product from what

I understand. And I have developed an allergy to shellfish as well.

Don't know if the iodine thingie is related between seaweed and shellfish

and migraines, but it might be.

usually chocolate after a certain time at time will make me wake up with one

also when i have my period will trigger it as well as lots of stress. I will

I use Zomig and LOVE IT! But, don't take it if you are also taking

Prozac!!!!!!!!!!!! It can cause seizures.

Lots of chocolate has carageenan in it. It might not say so on the

label, but it's usually there. That's what makes some chocolate so

creamy and smooth.

Hi, I personally know how dehibilitating and painful migraines can be as I've suffered them myself for as long as I can remember.

There are several treatments so you will need to visit with your doctor to see what is best.

I find myself taking panadol as soon as I have a headache which seems to sometimes deter a migraine. If I do get one, I take a migraine tablet (see Dr) and sometimes Voltarin or Panafen which I find great. A cold flannel on the forehead feels good, a dark room and quiet rest.

Because I suffer them so badly, I take a preventative for Migraine called Sandomigraine. Taken every evening to prevent the severity or the amount of them. I swear by this tablet. I also know what triggers some of my migraines. If you haven't already it might help to keep a diary for sometime and see if there are any common factors. example, sitting in the sun, tired, chocolate is a known factor hot choc etc (anything with cocoa), some food etc. Try doing a Migraine search for ideas.

Hope this helps.

blepharophimosis migraines

thank you so much for your ideas, the doctor said your ideas were better than his, so we now know what to try, the diary thing works too, we did try it and related his migraines to running and stress, and usually when he is about to get a cold. again thank you for your ideas I hope they work

Yes, I get the occasional migraine, and also regular almost-migraines

that are milder but last for days (including right now). I often wonder

if it's related to muscle tension in the forehead, having to use those

muscles to keep my eyes open when I read or drive or whatever. Maybe

other other facia lata sling operatees get that? I don't know.

I find massaging my forehead helps, along with the usual dark room, cool

washer, drugs (mmmmm.... druuuuugs...) and sleep. Sometimes, if my body

needs an afternoon nap and I force it to stay awake instead (and

therefore keep my eyes open), that can trigger a headache.

It might also be partly age-related. I don't get nearly as many

full-blown migraines these days (maybe 1 or 2 per year) compared with

when I was in my teens and twenties.

Some ideas at least. Hope this helps.

Re: Migraines:

Read the August issue of Discover Magazine, page 28, re: "Good-bye Headaches".

Magenetic pulse gun will be in trials by the end of this year.

This looks very promising.

Hello Yellow,

I agree with Jenni 100%. I have migraines pretty bad and they are totally different than a regular headache. I have all the same signs as you and have been on migraine med's for a very long time as well as on and off pain med's for the migraines and now for the RA. (Which I might add does not work now for either- it was "ultracet". Did not do a thing for pain. I am currently on Relpax for migraines and the only thing with that is you have to take it as soon as you feel a migraine coming on. After you have had it for a while the relpax does not work with just one, you will have to take 2 and you cannot take them within I think it is 2 hours of each other. I have taken the imitrex injection and it did not work at all with my migraines. But people are different and it may work for you. Let me know what the doctor says about your headaches. I hope you get some relief soon. I know when I have one it puts me on my butt hard!! I rank the pain of a migraine as equal to the pain of RA for me. They are that bad! Alot of times I have to go to the ER to get a shot of stronger med's to get rid of my migraines. I agree with Jenni as well that OTC's are not for true migraines. They only contain a little more caffeine and tylenol in them. I hope you feel better soon.

Hugs to you and everyone,

Anita
