Guest guest
Ahem! I am not as others I don't love tv. There's a few programs I'm actively interested in but tbh if you took my telly away tomorrow I really wouldn't mind! I dislike reality shows. Really really dislike them. Especially when they've had several seasons and people are acting surprised that something that happened on all the other shows has just happened to them! What's a TIVO? Guest guest
Books? You must surely mean ebooks? Or CD's? Guest guest
Ok, you people are making me look so bad. I last went into a library around....umm.....let's see....ummm.....1970 or so. I seldom read books but devour magazines and, obviously, read extremely heavily online. If its a bad book I can't stand to go through with it. If its a good book I must read it in one sitting. But I just prefer other forms of reading. I know its just horrible, but can't help it. > > > dawn > > > I don't know a female that doesn't love tv. > > > my wife her sister and my brothers wife > > > all know every reality show on the planet > > > I suppose that is why we have a TIVO > > > > > > brett bowser > > > brett@ > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > ------------ --------- --------- --- > > > Looking for last minute shopping deals? Guest guest
Yes Bruce, books. Real actual paper between cardboard covers. LOL You couldn't pay me to read a book on the computer, it would exhaust my eyes. Besides I can read a real book anywhere, waiting at the doctors office, in my bed, on a towel at the beach etc etc. I do like a book on cd though on a long trip. Listened to Into the Wild on cd a few months back before I saw the movie. Highly recommend both! Beth in NC age 48 Fibrotic NSIP 06/06 "For as long as I shall live, I will testify to Love." Guest guest
i love reading - of all kinds (except magazines). i'm happy to read newspaper articles on line but sometimes i cut and paste into a word doc and grow the font but for novels it has to be proper books. books that you can curl in bed with or lie on your front or outside....books are my first love. rosanna bought me a novel for xmas called 'the kite runner' by khaled hosseini. i really enjoyed it - especially i think because it was a man's life story. based on fact it began in afganistan and moved to the states and covered him going back after the taliban. i really recommend it. i read two parts of a trilogy last year of a man's life story born in glasgow and going through his national service. they were great. the first was called 'night song of the last tram' by robt douglas. not my era of glasgow - a wee bit before me but i loved his descriptions of going dancing as a lad. may > > > > dawn > > > > I don't know a female that doesn't love tv. > > > > my wife her sister and my brothers wife > > > > all know every reality show on the planet > > > > I suppose that is why we have a TIVO > > > > > > > > brett bowser > > > > brett@ > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > ------------ --------- --------- --- > > > > Looking for last minute shopping deals? Guest guest
Oh but see the print on your little book is so tiny and the print on my 32 inch computer monitor is so big....lol Honestly, my thing with books is just more a matter of patience. I don't like doing things that I can't just complete in a short time. Thats why I could never knit or crochet or cross-stitch. Never liked putting together jigsaw puzzles. I'm not ADD because I can concentrate for those long periods or could at one point, but I just don't like to, I get bored too easily. Now, add to that my eyes and bifocals and I just don't do it. I know it makes me an intellectual outcast, but, oh well...lol. I really wish I liked reading books because I know its a calm, peaceful, relaxing world and one that gets your mind off of everything else. That might have been part of my problem over the years too, always multitasking, and books not good for that. Have worked on doing less multitasking but still have limited skills in that area. > > > > dawn > > > > I don't know a female that doesn't love tv. > > > > my wife her sister and my brothers wife > > > > all know every reality show on the planet > > > > I suppose that is why we have a TIVO > > > > > > > > brett bowser > > > > brett@ > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > ------------ --------- --------- --- > > > > Looking for last minute shopping deals? Guest guest
May, If you loved Kite Runner ( I did too!) read his next book, A Thousand Splendid Suns. Oh my gosh what an amazing book. It covers the same period of time but stays in Afghanistan and focuses on female characters. Disturbing, horrifying and yet uplifting too. He's an amazing writer!!! Guest guest
I have to go with Bruce on this one!! I guess we are more alike than I realized!! I cannot stand to read unless it is on the computer. Sometimes I thumb through magazines, but not often, only if searching for a recipe or something. Every time I have ever tried to read a book, I fall asleep. If it doesn't catch me in the first few pages, forget it. My daughter loves to read. Don't know who she got that from. It certainly wasn't me. I am the same as Bruce for the computer and the phone. But I would also DIE without my cable TV!!! Caro kiki boettin wrote: I like tv. Guest guest
I've been reading since I was 3. I can read 5 or 6 books a week, or more depending on the circumstances. I go to thrift stores and yard sales to buy them cheap, or to Half-Price Books. I watch a lot of tv too though. I like mysteries, forensics, etc. I watch some reality, like The Biggest Loser and once in a while I watch Survivor but I'm not hooked on it. I love American Idol, but that's to be expected as I was a professional singer and I like watching these kids go through the process, and I cheer on the ones who then go on to fame and fortune. Hudson proved it's more than just a silly singing contest. I love the internet for all it's many faceted uses and utilize it for many purposes. BUT, I adore books. Yes Bruce, the real kind, that you place on the shelf and keep. I have several poetry books, and even some old Drew books from my childhood. I keep classics on hand to read over and over again. I think I'm on my 6th or 7th reading of " Gone with the Wind " ..... If I could only have one form of entertainment, it would be books. There isn't enough $$ in the world for me to go on a show like that. lol. Good idea, the used book stores. I used to haunt them weekly. Don't know why I stopped. I'll have to do it again. Guest guest
Babs, I have a much used libarary card but I " own " a lot of books. Actually I think books own me, I have book rules, they have to be read in certain order, if I have read a certain # of pages then I can stop if I really dislike it, kind of an investment thing - throwing good money, as in time, after bad. The rule used to be the exact opposite, if you invested that much time then you had to finish. When I go to visit friends and family (by air) I send a box of books ahead if I'm going to be there more than a few days. It is much easier and less expensive than packing them. I just shipped a box to AZ for my trip this month. I started reading very young, also remember when my baby cousin came to visit and she wanted to take my " Little Train That Could " book home, she 2 and I was 3 1/2. I protested but I got the whole sharing spiel and never saw the book again! We still laugh over that. I never could " buy " books except for school and used paperbacks for many years. When I could, I went totally bananas, shoes an books can't get enough! I budget for them now and only buy hardbacks written by authors both my husband and I enjoy. If it wasn't for him there would be stacks of books everywhere as opposed to now where they are just most everywhere. lol Kathie WA NSIP '96, etc. > > > > > dawn > > > > > I don't know a female that doesn't love tv. > > > > > my wife her sister and my brothers wife > > > > > all know every reality show on the planet > > > > > I suppose that is why we have a TIVO > > > > > > > > > > brett bowser > > > > > brett@ > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > ------------ --------- --------- --- > > > > > Looking for last minute shopping deals? Guest guest
OMG another twinning of taste...I DO like Historical & Archaelogy shows & I LOVE British Comedy like 'Jam n'Jersualem' & 'Doc ' BUT most reality Tele leaves me COLD....Except for Singin' n' Dancin' which I will sometimes (depending on the quality of the hosts & judges) succumb to those! I must say the Aussie versions seem better than the British on that score from what I saw on my trip but that coulod be just my 'comfort' zone speaking! Having confessed to all that maybe I'm more Tele oriented than I like to think, although I can live without it very easily too! Guest guest
... we so miss Hyacinth on Keeping Up Appearances! I like the singin' and dancin' too and we watch the news, however depressing it is. "Dr. Oz" is one of Oprah's 'pet-projects'. He talks very candidly about the body and how we need to take care of it. And all the body parts! He's good but I'm getting tired of Oprah....no tomatos through the screen please. BE good.
