Bedwetting

Hi

I've been lurking for some time now and have found it very

informative. I'm in need of some advice and am hoping that someone

has some suggestions.

DS is 4 this week & has been dry at night for at least 5 months, with

the odd accident. In the last 10 days he has started bedwetting

nightly. There has been no change to his routines recently, although

he did change from nursery to pre school in August. He is happy at

home & his teachers/carers all report he is very happy. He is testing

boundaries at home & at school, but his teachers are not concerned

and are telling me it's perfectly normal. Has anyone else experienced

this problem with bedwetting ? Has anyone any suggestions ?

Kind regards

Sue

I find that DS2 will wet the bed when he goes to bed totally shattered and

obviously sleeps so deeply that he is unaware of signals telling him that this

bladder needs emptying. If he started school in August, how long has he been

doing full days? You may find that he is just too tired to react normally to

the signals. To avoid having to change sheets, you could try lifting him when

you go to bed to get him to wee. I know it's not recommended for training a

child, but your son is obviously already trained, just having an aberration.

Steffi was night-trained very early but we have had occasional blips -

when we were in NZ earlier this year she wet her bed a few nights in a

row, then it cleared up. It happened again when we visited family in

Canada in July and may (I'm really not sure on this) have happened in

the intervening time we were here at home.

Each time, I've just stripped the bed and dumped the stuff in a corner

until the next morning and made up some semblance of a bed again for

her. Or put her in with me/us. It's always cleared up in under a week

I'd say.

Various possible causes sprung to mind - change in drinking habits,

environment, living with other people, getting to know other people,

overtired and not waking in time, etc - but I wouldn't trust myself to

pin it on one thing.

Hope it clears up soon.
