Guest guest
I haven't been there, but my understanding is that M.D. is one of the world's greatest places to be treated for cancer. It in the list of U.S. National Cancer Institute " Designated Comprehensive Cancer Centers " , of which there are currently about 45 in the country. Statistics show that cure rates at the NCI designated centers are significantly higher than in average community cancer centers. I think any short list of leading cancer centers in the U.S. would include them, along with places like s Hopkins, Memorial Sloan-Kettering, Fox Chase, UCSF, Dana-Farber, the Mayo Clinic, and a number of others. Some of the places mentioned by Steve Jordan wouldn't make an NCI general list because they aren't concerned with all kinds of cancer. Some of them are prostate cancer specialists. However, they too can offer outstanding care. There are also, of course, totally unknown doctors working away in obscure community hospitals who just happen to be highly competent, caring, committed people who will also do a fine job. I'm not convinced that there is a " best " place to be treated. There are many great doctors and great hospitals. But I am convinced that finding a good specialist is one of the most important things a patient can do. If you get an average Joe the plumber to fix your water pipes and he botches the job, well, you go look for a better plumber. But you want your cancer specialist to do the very best possible job the very first time. -- Alan Meyer ameyer2@...
