Guest guest
Wow Jim! I won't complain anymore that our gas is 3.09. And, I won't ever ever complian that "The game is too far away!" Sarcoid/PF 3/2006 California B-Ball, Alaska style Here is your trivia for today, stuff you never wanted to know.....Our 15 year old daughter has been traveling alot with our hi-school basketball teams (the boys travel, too) They were at a tourney in Barrow last weekend. So, because I have too much time on my hands, practicing for retirement, I tallied up the miles they've traveled over the last 4 weekends, since Jan 16. Some of these were 4 and 5 day weekends. We are off the road system so these are all air miles and round trips: Dillingham to Seward (via Anchorage) 950 Dlg to King Salmon (across the bay) 120 est. Dlg to Chevak (direct charter) 700 Dlg to Barrow (via Anchorage) 2388 and this coming weekend..... ... Dlg to Nome (via Anchorage) 1738 total - - - 5896 This is 10 girls and 10 boys, 4 coaches and 2 chaperones. The weekend after Nome, Bethel comes here (FINALLY, home games). Then 2 weeks later the State Tourney is here and all these teams will come to Dillingham. We'll all have houses full of kids from all over the state. I've no idea as to the cost of all this, can't imagine. Here to Anchorage, (350 miles) round trip, is $450.00. I'm not saying that I object, it's a great experience for the kids. However, 15 years ago I saw a t-shirt in Anchorage that said "Dear God, please raise the price of oil and we promise not to piss it all away again" Oil is now $100.00 a barrel..mmmmmmmm, and our gas is $5.25.a gallon. jim IPF 05 alaska Be a better friend, newshound, and know-it-all with Yahoo! May not be the case there but I'm amazed here at how many days are missed by athletes, cheerleaders, dance teams, bands, and other groups. > > Here is your trivia for today, stuff you never wanted to know.....Our 15 year old daughter has been traveling alot with our hi- school basketball teams (the boys travel, too) They were at a tourney in Barrow last weekend. Guest guest
Good question....10 days so far, 2 more this week. School is real strict, minimum GPA, etc. They usually only play one game a day and the coaches and chaperones strictly enforce a study time.Bruce Moreland wrote: And how many days of school have they missed traveling? Guest guest
Well, the absolute worst here is the golf team. It's just a change and a part of the fact that students in the US spend less time per year in the classroom than other major countries. In high school they have sports, debate, and then they have all the testing days in Texas. So, what starts as only 183 days of school ends up for many students being only around 170 or effectively even less. In olden days, all extracurricular activities were local and outside of the classroom day. Some coaches, but around here not many, make sure the kids keep up, and some students are diligent. Still, if we say class has value, then we're short changing. > > > > Here is your trivia for today, stuff you never wanted to > know.....Our 15 year old daughter has been traveling alot with our hi- > school basketball teams (the boys travel, too) They were at a tourney > in Barrow last weekend. Guest guest
Yes, we do sort of forget. From Glasgow to Paris is 702 miles. By comparison, I'm 2100 miles from Sher, over 4000 miles from Jim, 970 miles from Leanne and 1425 miles from Irene. To cross from Miami to Seattle would be 3300 miles or San Diego to Portland, Maine would be 3150 miles. Our average driver puts in over 20,000 miles per year now. Just living in a Metropolitan area is huge on mileage. For instance, I lived 27 miles from my last job. So, just driving to and from work six days a week, 48 weeks per year (I wish that had been all) would have been 15,500 miles in stop and go traffic and typically if you take that at 20 mpg (high considering circumstances) and $3/gallon, that is $2325 per year just on gas. > > > > > > > > > > Here is your trivia for today, stuff you never wanted to > > > > know.....Our 15 year old daughter has been traveling alot with > > our > > > hi- > > > > school basketball teams (the boys travel, too) They were at a > > > tourney > > > > in Barrow last weekend. Guest guest
Right now, I am living in the big city of Greenwood. Grew up there, moved to in 1987. Lived all around metro area, , Clinton, Ridgeland, South , North . I really miss the hustle and bustle!! I have an aunt and uncle who live in Crystal Springs and have lived there most of their life. You might know them. They are the Bowmans who own the Piggly Wiggly stores (I think they are now Winn Dixie, but not sure.) I have a cousin who lives in Brookhaven, too. My 2 sons live in Hattiesburg. I really don't like living back here in Greenwood. Would love to be able to move back to Ridgeland this year. Will see how it turns out, I guess. What brought you to Texas? Carolsmith7892006 wrote: OK where in Mississippi? I grew up in the big city of Crystal Springs and hubby is from Brookhaven. We lived in Pearl until 1991. Guest guest
Miss the hustle and bustle of ? You really need to get out more. lol Came to Texas from South Florida when I met my wife, now ex-wife but still best friend. Went from Ruleville, MS. to NYC to South Florida to here. I went through determining last year where I wanted to live, long involved process, and stayed here. I had no idea about PF at time but medical care, which I have overrated quality here and anywhere, was a reason. In all sincerety if you do decide to reconsider where to live, you are now at a point that medical care is very important. Proximity to a good teaching hospital with a Pulmonary specialty would be best. Mississippi really isn't where I would choose at this point although thats nothing against the people, just the hospitals. Especially, if you're ever going to consider a transplant you will have to be within 2 hours (I think thats the number with most) of the transplant center and you'd need to be close before and after. You've already experienced the absence of available care where you are. Which brings us to the question of how are you today? If not better, get to someone NOW!!!!!!!!!!!!! > > > > > Here is your trivia for today, stuff you never > > > wanted to know.....Our 15 year old daughter has been > > > traveling alot with our hi-school basketball teams > > > (the boys travel, too) They were at a tourney in > > > Barrow last weekend. Guest guest
I am somewhat better today. I actually vacuumed the floor!! You would have thought I had run a race by the time I was done. I called my pulmo AGAIN today and secty said he will be back next week. Now she says, "He decided to extend his VACA!!" I wish they would get their story straight!! I told her I was told I would be worked in as soon as he gets back. She told me to call her on the 25th!! You can bet your buns I will be calling her Monday first thing!! Also, I am still waiting on a call from my family doc in . Still no word and it has been 2 days already. And, ah yes, !! Yeah, I am a Mississippi country girl whose closest thing to ever living in a big city was !! You lived close to here before and compared to Greenwood, is humongous!! Thanks for the info about the transplant, though. I didn't know you had to be within 2 hours. Guess I would have found that out whenever I went. If I have to move closer to Birmingham, I just do. Good thing is as long as I am still able to work, I can take my job with me anywhere in the US, Canada, or India. Maybe I should consider Canada and get govt paid medical? My mom would love that with me being that far away!! She wouldn't be able to stand it and I probably wouldn't either. LOL!!! Hope all is going well with all of you. Hang in there, Mama-Sher with the oxygen. Hopefully it will work out soon. Caro Bruce Moreland wrote: Miss the hustle and bustle of ?
