Guest guest
Lynn, If I understood my (female) Oncologist correctly it is a mistake to think of the urethra as a tube running through the prostate. The urethra is attached at either end of the prostate and there is simply a tubular passage within the prostate rather than a 'pipeline' type tube running thru it. There is no urethral tissue within the prostate, the ducts of the prostate simply empty into the tubular hole running thru it. Urine can therefore wash any blood in these ducts into the stream of urine. This conversation came about when I asked 'how would my urethra be protected during radiation ?' (it wouldn't be). I am happy to be corrected by anyone with greater medical/anatomical knowledge than me. Spain Biopsy and blood> > > Â > > My husband has a question. Why when you do a biopsy of the prostate can there be blood in the urine? I understand why it would be in the semen and in the stool, but I was curious why in the urine.> > Thanks, > Lynn>
