Perhaps a kidney stone? Regards, T Just checking on something...I had a Robotic Assisted RP (Da Vinci) in September 2007 at Northwestern Medical center in Chicago. I am very satisfied with the results. My last PSA test, performed at Northwestern every six months as part of their five year follow-up program, was zero point zero. I have no problems with continence - none. I had a period of several months following surgery during which I had a struggle with ED but by the end of the first year I was having erections suitable for penetration and enjoyable sex without any oral meds. I do use oral meds on occasion(Cialis is my drug of choice, though I have used Viagra)for better erections and I also have a bottle of Trimix in the fridge which I LOVE for those special occasions. So, here's the question.I place a lot of importance on staying hydrated for general health. I drink a lot of water and coffee during the day. Last night I had a large mug of hot tea about an hour before retiring. At dinner I had consumed two large glasses (24 ounces total) of ice water with my meal. None of that is really unusual for me. Most nights I get up once to urinate. On rare occasions I may get up twice. USUALLY it is not a problem. USUALLY I get up, urinate easily and go back to bed and immediately fall back asleep.Last night I went to bed at about 10:00 PM. I fell asleep quickly as usual. I tend to sleep very, very soundly. About 2:30 AM I awoke from deep sleep and when I attempted to roll over from my side so I could get out of bed to pee I had an EXCRUCIATING pain in my bladder and around the base of my penis. The pain felt like a couple of very thin long needles were being forced through the area that hurt. As I moved to get out of bed it felt like my bladder was going to explode. Each shuffling step I took caused me to wince with pain and utter an involuntary grunt. I supported as much of my body weight as possible on the frame of the bed but crossing the open expanse of my bedroom where I had no furniture to support me was an ordeal. When I got to the toilet I had to sit down and wait several seconds for my sphincter to relax and permit urine flow. The first dribble of urine burned very noticeably but within a second or two a normal stream was established and within several seconds the pain was gone. I had almost no residual discomfort when I walked back to bed other than a little bit of soreness in the area around my sphincter that reminded me of the feeling I used to have while getting ready for surgery if I did way too many kegals. When I got back in bed last night I quickly fell asleep and I was fine in the morning. This has happened to me about five or six times over the past four years. It never happened prior to my surgery.I am thinking it is caused by nothing more than an overly full bladder. I am curious if anyone else has experienced anything similar to this or am I a freak of nature on the scale of ph Merrick? Thanks.

You are not alone. I have had this same

pain whenever I had a very full bladder and tried to sit up. One of my fellow

PC survivors had also warned me about this when I was considering surgery. I

had an especially difficult time while getting radiation treatments when you

had to have a full bladder before starting each treatment. Being helped up

afterwards sometimes was very difficult and extremely difficult. You are

right, once you voided it the pain and discomfort is gone.

Extreme pain late at night

Just checking on something...

I had a Robotic Assisted RP (Da Vinci) in September 2007 at Northwestern

Medical center in Chicago.

I am very satisfied with the results. My last PSA test, performed at

Northwestern every six months as part of their five year follow-up program, was

zero point zero. I have no problems with continence - none. I had a period of

several months following surgery during which I had a struggle with ED but by

the end of the first year I was having erections suitable for penetration and

enjoyable sex without any oral meds. I do use oral meds on occasion(Cialis is

my drug of choice, though I have used Viagra)for better erections and I also

have a bottle of Trimix in the fridge which I LOVE for those special occasions.

So, here's the question.

I place a lot of importance on staying hydrated for general health. I drink a

lot of water and coffee during the day. Last night I had a large mug of hot tea

about an hour before retiring. At dinner I had consumed two large glasses (24

ounces total) of ice water with my meal. None of that is really unusual for me.

Most nights I get up once to urinate. On rare occasions I may get up twice.

USUALLY it is not a problem. USUALLY I get up, urinate easily and go back to

bed and immediately fall back asleep.

Last night I went to bed at about 10:00 PM. I fell asleep quickly as usual. I

tend to sleep very, very soundly. About 2:30 AM I awoke from deep sleep and

when I attempted to roll over from my side so I could get out of bed to pee I

had an EXCRUCIATING pain in my bladder and around the base of my penis. The

pain felt like a couple of very thin long needles were being forced through the

area that hurt. As I moved to get out of bed it felt like my bladder was going

to explode. Each shuffling step I took caused me to wince with pain and utter

an involuntary grunt. I supported as much of my body weight as possible on the

frame of the bed but crossing the open expanse of my bedroom where I had no

furniture to support me was an ordeal. When I got to the toilet I had to sit

down and wait several seconds for my sphincter to relax and permit urine flow.

The first dribble of urine burned very noticeably but within a second or two a

normal stream was established and within several seconds the pain was gone. I

had almost no residual discomfort when I walked back to bed other than a little

bit of soreness in the area around my sphincter that reminded me of the feeling

I used to have while getting ready for surgery if I did way too many kegals.

When I got back in bed last night I quickly fell asleep and I was fine in the

morning.

This has happened to me about five or six times over the past four years. It

never happened prior to my surgery.

I am thinking it is caused by nothing more than an overly full bladder. I am

curious if anyone else has experienced anything similar to this or am I a freak

of nature on the scale of ph Merrick?

Thanks.
