Hi Everyone,

I am a 63 year old patient who was diagnosed with PC in 2008. I chose active surveillance until gleason got to 4+3 in Feb 2011. The PSA was 8 at that point. I had done research on treatment methods, and all had potential side effects and outcomes. A lot had to do with your physical condition going into treatment.

I finally chose DaVinci at The City of Hope near LA. My doc had done at least 1800 of the procedures. He also taught robotic surgery there.

My surgery was on May 5, 2011. I was home the next afternoon. The catheter came out in 5 days. After three weeks I did not require a pad during the day. At 90 days, no pad at night. The night thing takes the longest. I had absolutely no pain at all. As far as potency goes, I am where I was prior to surgery. My latest PSA was <0.1.

I am an advocate of the DaVinci System. The key thing here is the latest model and the most experienced guy at the joystick. Also, read current news. Not things that happened years ago. They might scare you.

If any of you have further questions over things I may have not addressed, please let me know.

Good luck on your journey...

Tom

Tom,

As I mentioned, on several posts my experience was similar. Had my DaVinci op June 20 th at s Hopkins. Still leaking a little but not at night. I had no major pain except for the incision for about a week.

I was in the hospital for 3 days and the cath came out in 10. Potency should not be a problem if, I ever get married. One thing most guts should realize is their flow rate will never be a problem again. It will be like when you were 21, I'm 68. The op only cost about $10 K and would have gladly paid it my self if Medicaid didn't. I'm also an advocate for the Da Vinci System and an experienced surgeon.
