Guest guest
Fen:This is a drug called ARN-509 from Aragon. This is from the same men, Dr. Jung and Sawyers who created MDV3100. Jung is an advanced medical bio-chemist at UCLA and Sawyers is one of the top people at MSK in NYC. It appears to be a more potent and effective (we hope) selective androgen receptor degrader (SARD). This means it interferes with the androgen receptor on the surface of the PCA tumor cell and does some other actions to deter the cell reproduction cycle, thus improving patient status. It was a follow up compound to MDV3100, which has just concluded the testing part of its Phase III successfully and should be available by mid 2012. ARN is sometimes referred to as "son of Medivation". MDV3100 is commercialised by Medivation Inc. I think that if you have a rising psa on treatment that this trial would be a great choice and one I would be elated to qualify for. The government clinical trials site does not indicate a phase II initiation for this but it was a phase I-II study from the beginning which was to move from phase I straight to phase II as patient response and finances allowed. I have followed this drug as closely as possible and you are the first person I have heard mention it as a possible trial recruit. Especially as this is a non placebo trial I think that there is nothing that could be a better choice as a trial drug. It is possible that there are other approved drugs you have not tried. Still, I am pleased for you to have this (apparent) opportunity. Please keep posting. I was wondering if anyone has heard of, or had experience with the study drug made by Paragon currently identified as ARN-509? Phase 1 was completed and now they are enrolling for phase 2.I have been told there will not be a placebo. I am not sure this is one for me at this time. Your comments would be very much appreciated. Many thanks.....

Fen, If you haven't done so already, I suggest that you call the site conducting the trial. You should be able to speak to a knowledgeable person. The NCI record for this trial can be found at: http://www.cancer.gov/clinicaltrials/search/view?cdrid=682759 & version=HealthProf\ essional It appears that the only trial site is at Memorial Sloan Kettering in New York. There is a phone number there for the office of the principal investigator. I think that if you call you will likely be connected to a resident or an oncology nurse who is familiar with the trial and can give you information, answser questions, and tell you if there is a chance that you could qualify for the trial. In my personal view, trials are a Very Good Thing, both for the patient and for the community. You can often get consultation and treatment from a really top team of cancer researchers, and sometimes you don't have to pay anything. Best of luck.
