Guest guest
hi, i just read your post, do you mean ssi or ssdi? the ssdi is based on past work history and is very difficult to get, i am waiting for my first appeal to be answered at this present time. i applied in october of 1998 and it took 11 months for them to say no. hence my appeal, i am applying for it because i have multiple sclerosis and RP and have since lost my hearing completely in one ear and partially in the other because of the RP, my lawyer said it will be a battle because of my age (not even 30). the only advice i can give is to get a lawyer (you will need one) and i think i may also have some other info i can mail you. i'll look for it. bye now. Guest guest
Nancie, I just filed for SSI and Social Security for my son about two weeks ago. They told me at the Social Security Office it would take about 3 to 4 months before i hear anything from them they also told me to call the Social Security Office and keep them advised on any thing concerning my son like going in the hospital or even when he get sick so they can send that info. to the up to office that determines his eligilbity. I also received another letter and form from the place that makes the decision asking me to feel out another questions updating my sons condition like what kind of meds he's own and if he suffers from a lot of pain and what pain meds he's on things like that. I will keep you posted. By everyone i talk with here told me to apply for SSI AND SS because he should be eligiable Social Security also told me you can not apply for medicare until you have been on SSI and SS for at least 2 yrs. Guest guest
Nancie, Check out the Family Medical Leave Act. You can take up to 12 weeks a year for a number of reasons. I don't know if 12 weeks will help, but it may be a start. Under this plan you cannot be fired for missing too much work. Up to the 12 weeks. Guest guest
Gail, Yep, that's what they told me too about the medicare. I asked them how was I supposed to have insurance if I cannot have any earned income (insurance thru a job). Their answer get COBRA. I said do you realize how much COBRA is???? At my job it's very expensive. I'm trying to work something out with work to go on leave of absence instead of terminating that way I can conitnue insurance at normal rate. nancie --- Grfm@... wrote: > Nancie, I just filed for SSI and Social Security > for my son about two weeks > ago. Guest guest
Hi Jim, I know about the fmla act and I checked that out also. but to become eligible for medicare you have to be on SSI for 24 months. There is a way in claif. to get 8 weeks under state disability, then 16 weeks under fmla and then I can take unpaid leave. But like I said I'm trying to work out with my boss to go on leave of absence that way I'm still considered " active " but not earned income in generated. So I can start the SSI application process. Thanks for all your adivce it is very much appreciated. nancie --- HAIGJIM@... wrote: > Nancie, > Check out the Family Medical Leave Act. Guest guest
Angie, Well I had soooo many surgeries.... I've had five lumpectomies and am 4 years clean from that thank you Jesus. I've had a partial hystorectomy from uterine cancer, I'm ten years clean from that thank you Jesus. I've had 7 surgeries on my left leg, but that is due to my own stubborness. I used to play both indoor and outdoor soccer. Have had three total reconstructions and 4 scopes. It took me awhile to realize that this body was too old. I finally called it quits after the last reconstructive. Tried coaching little guys for a few years but it was too frustrating (I just wanted to PLAT again!). So now I settle for watching on T.V. once in awhile. Usually when I get the bug I just look at the road map on my leg and it will gently slap me in the face! heh heh nancie --- AngieCATW1@... wrote: > In a message dated 02/03/2000 12:27:20 PM Eastern > Standard Time, > suiska@... writes: > > << To be honest with you I didn't even think about > multiple disorders. Guest guest
Hi everyone - I'm sorry I haven't posted for such a long time, but I have been travelling back and forth to Atlanta to visit my Granny who is on her deathbed - I'm trying to squeeze in as many minutes as I can with her here at the end of her life. It has been very stressful on my mom who has been caring for her constantly - my mom has lupus and has been having constant flares during this whole thing. Since I haven't posted for a while, I have a couple of things to say - so bear with me! First - I went to my rheumy in NYC two weeks ago - he doubled my plaquenil - trying , trying to hold me at the plaquneil, but my feet have become unbearable - I cannot walk about 60% of the time and now my ribs have started hurting - spasms occasionally, but OUCH! to touch them. PLEASE PRAY FOR ME THAT THIS WILL WORK - I DO NOT WANT TO GO ON STEROIDS!!!! Second - I finally recieved notice of my " Hearing " for Social Security Disability - again, PLEASE PRAY FOR ME - if I don't get my benefits I will have to go back to work - this will most certianly be tragic for me and my little family - I can't imagine having to use what little bit of energy I have going to work - my poor babies - they would not have any of their mommy left over. February 18 is the big day. Please, please mark that day somewhere and say a prayer for me and the people that are making the decision. Also, on this issue - if anyone has been through a hearing and has any advice - I would love to hear it. If anyone is starting this process or has had bad luck with it - I do recommend that you get an attorney - since I hired mine, they have really pushed the process along much more quickly and effeciently than I did! I called the guys that advertise all the time - Binder & Binder - they are pros and they will actually be putting me through a mock hearing to prepare me. These guys are national and they say they are successful 85% of the time. So if you are discouraged out there - give it a try - they cost nothing if you lose. Okay everyone - I'm still trying to read thru the rest of the 736 e-mails I have left - can someone tell me how to go on standby here since the next few months are going to be up and down for me. I don't want these posts to build up so much - even tho I hate to miss anything from you guys. Please know that even tho I have disappeared I think about you guys all the time - and thanks to my sweet Angie who checks up on me anyway!!!! Love - B. Guest guest
B: So sorry to hear about your grandmother. Must be so difficult to do but every minute will probably be comforting to her. How is your mom holding up with the lupus under the stress? Sure seems like autoimmune does have a strong family link. We'll be praying for you for all your difficulties in the future. Take care, LBNARZ@... wrote: > From: LBNARZ@... > > Hi everyone - I'm sorry I haven't posted for such a long time, but I > have > been travelling back and forth to Atlanta to visit my Granny who is on > her > deathbed - I'm trying to squeeze in as many minutes as I can with her > here at > the end of her life. Guest guest
Angie - can you remember any of the things that you were glad you did in the hearing? What stands out in your mind? I am getting so worked up about this - so much is riding on it. Can you just write out whatever you remember the judge asking? I would apprciate it. My attorney is putting me through a mock hearing next week, but they said it will only take 20 minutes - so I really need to prepare more on my own - HELP - also put me on digest if you can - starting next week the 19th
