Guest guest
Hello. Cleveland Clinic has a very good reputation. There are also ten proton beam centers now in operation throughout the country. See, http://www.proton-therapy.org Chuck Maack, who participates in this group, also, I am sure will respond. Here is a website http://www.ustoowichita.org/observations.cfmThe following web site is probably premature, but educational: http://www.clinicaloncology.com/download/Prostate_con0711_WM.pdfHere is an excellent starting point: http://www.yananow.org/Links.htmlOthers will pitch in with info on Gleason scores, etc., watchful waiting vs treatment options, I am sure. Regards, T Dear GroupMy first husband died of Medullary Thyroid Cancer and the Yahoo Group was my life line. Now my second husband (married 11 mos.) was diagnosed with Prostate Cancer today. We meet with the Dr. sometime next week. Biopsy has confirmed cancer and that is all I know. What I do know is that a Dr. in Muskegon MI is not where I want him treated. Thinking of Cleveland Clinic. What are your opinions?Vicki MacTavish

Guest guest
Thanks SheilaI thought the group that I previously belonged to for my first husband was the source of more information that was useful and helpful and so far this group is providing me with the same support. 's PSA is 4.5 I believe and we don't know the Gleason score yet. THanks for the prayers and positive thoughts.. I'll keep you posted.Vicki Dear Vicki,Don't panic,,,do your homework,,there are several ways to treat Prostate Cancer. Guest guest
Vicki, As others have suggested, take your time. Get second opinions. Do plenty of research by reading the articles on the Prostate Canter Research Institute (PCRI) website etc. (they have a great series for the newly diagnosed); Memorial Sloan Kettering has an excellent prostate cancer section; by reading one or two of the excellent books etc. Prostate cancer is a slow growing cancer, so one has the luxury of carefully considering what action to take. My urologist said even taking a couple of months to decide was not a problem (my PSA was 4.95 and my Gleason score was 3+4=7, with 7 of 12 cores in the biopsy cancerous). Guest guest
: Tuesday, September 13, 2011 6:08 PMSubject: Newly diagnosed.. Dear Vicki The Clevland Clinic is a fine hospital. But for prostate cancer I believe that s Hopkins is the best. I suggesgt you get Dr. Walsh'es book Surviving Prostate Cancer. He is the inventor of the nerve sparing technology for sexual potency post prostate cancer surgery. He is on the staff at s Hopkins Hospital. Sorry to hear of your husbands diagnosis and wish him the best. We on this list know all to well the stress involved with this disease.
