Guest guest
Just to be clear, I never proposed nor do I believe that a good healthy diet does anything in regards to Prostate Cancer. I'm just doing everything to make sure it makes my body and mind are healthier overall - we all have enough on our hands with the cancer, the last thing they need is to have to waste our energy processing unhealthy food. Folks, I see that we have another craze sweeping our group, as usual about diet. When will it get through to people that there is absolutely no evidence that Prostate Cancer is caused by an inadequate diet, can be cured by a change of diet or even that it can be prevented or kept at bay by adopting a particular diet. All we have, people, is the knowledge that a healthy life style and diet give you a better chance of longer life. That's it. So by all means try veggie options and if they suit your lifestyle they will do no harm and may do some good, reduce the red meat, ditto, increase the proportion of nuts and berries in your diet, again harmless and possibly beneficial. I feel the same way about red wine and lycopenes and pomegranate juice - they suit me but I dunno if they really help keep the PCa at bay. Never mind, far more important is to be active, fit, otherwise healthy, avoid excesses and enjoy the rest of your life however short or long it may be. I strongly believe in the power of positive thinking, but I doubt if there's evidence that it will prolong my life. But it suits me and I commend it to others. I think people sometimes don't take in what Alan says, because he argues well and so kindly, so I thought I'd use the blunderbus approach! -- Emersonwww.flhw.orgEvery 2.25 minutes a man is diagnosed with prostate cancer. Guest guest
Me too. I just want to loose weight and not eat other sentient creatures. If what I eat happens to help fight prostate cancer, all the better. That said, everything we do to increase our joy, happiness and love of life, enhances our reason and resolve to live and to live a longer life than might otherwise be expected from our diagnosis. Quality of life, in all of its incarnations and flavors, counts. Increasing opportunities for love and happiness is part of the treatment plan. And, for me and many others, eating "better" helps.Darryl Folks, I see that we have another craze sweeping our group, as usual about diet. Guest guest
Those who study incidence of prostate cancer in different countries feel there is strong evidence pointing to diet being a factor. There are reports of east asians having low incidence of PCa and higher incidence with a change to a western diet. We also know that red meats, high dairy fats, lack of exercise and a low intake of fruit, oily fish and veg encourages heart problems. I think the basic advice is to follow a heart diet with the occasional treat (if you go out once a month and eat an 8 oz steak the effect will be minimal if at al), if the heart diet doesn't help your prostate it will help your heart. After that it is up to you, if it isn't causing harm, isn't breaking the bank and you are happy with it, lycopenes, selenium tablets, etc are fine My recent experience is that I think sunshine and taking Vitamin D tablets has helped stabalise my PSA at around 50. Not scientific, but I can think of no other change to cause the levelling off. Best wishes

Guest guest
Well, of course, there was an old joke among the more politically incorrect members of a departed List along the lines that the only sure cure for prostate cancer was death from another cause. One of the real larrikins on that site was attending a conference and at one of the breaks he was outside having a smoke (this was before smoking was banned outside!). One of the doctors castigated him saying that he would kill myself with that habit, to which our boy responding “Don’t worry doc, I’m trying to cure myself of prostate cancer!” Curiously enough, he subsequently did die, but of neither prostate nor lung cancer. But that’s why I joke on the story on my website ( http://www.yananow.net/Mentors/TerryH.htm ) that I was almost cured in 2005 when I had a heart failure episode and I guess it is a toss-up which condition will get me first. Hence my desire to wring what I can out of the wonderful time I have now, rather than worry too much about the future. Guest guest
hello all; we are new here. Husband recently dx and we are considering the options. is there a " cancer diet " or how is everyone eating; have you changed your diet since dx? I have seen a book by Dr Jane Plant that recommends eliminating dairy products; other sites recommend a mediterranean diet. sorry I can't give his scores right now, he has taken results with him to go visit our local PC centre. thanks Carol in B.C.
