a,

I'm into my 7 th month since surgery and also have some leakage (I am 68) but it is getting better. It can take up to two years from what I have read. Kegel exercises are definitely required, maybe hundreds a day, to train the healing body and brain.

I know it is frustrating. Some days I have no problem other days I wear a Poise pad. Keeping the bladder drained helps. This is the price we have to pay to be hopefully cured of this cancer. Other approaches may end up with the same problem with time and could lead to an earlier expiration date. The operation has the best track record. Tell him to hang in there.

hello i am a new member to the group. my husband 49 had his prostate removed in Nov of last year. he had the robotic surgery. he is still experiencing some leakage and is finding this quite frustratin. I think that he belived it would have gotten better by now. of course having a few drinks with his buddies makes it worse. any advice or suggestions would be helpful thank you.a

It took me 6 months before I didn't have any leakage. A lot of it requires teaching yourself how to control the leakage via kegles. Your husband is only 3 months out so what he is experiencing is not unusual. Sent from my iPhone

a: I agree, it can take longer. Myself, well over 6 months. Do the kegels religiously. Limit caffeine and alcohol. Drink less fluids in the evening. But definitely continue the kegels. To: ProstateCancerSupport From: lhelber@...Date: Sat, 21 Jan 2012 17:07:23 -0500Subject: Re: badder leakage

Thank you all for your replies. I have tried to tell him it will take time but he just can't seem to get past the fact that he has to wear 'diapers'. do you have any recomendations for products that work better than others or that are less bulky to wear.a

Oh yes, get rid of the diapers unless he has major leaking at both ends (which I doubt). Instead go with the pads. These are very similar to pads that women wear and have an adhesive strip on the back. These don’t work to well if he like boxers but it is a small adjustment. Depends and Tena both make pads or “guards” that he can use. The Depends are thicker and will absorb a lot if he is having major problems. I preferred the Tena product because it was thinner and perform an adequate job for those occasional dribbles from an errant sneeze or cough. If he really wants to go light I know of some who just use a woman’s panty liner. After the first month or so I wore just one per day and it kept me dry and comfortable. The best thing I found was Tena " Male Guards "

http://www.walmart.com/ip/Tena-Male-Guards-48ct-per-package-3pk/13032747

They're anatomically shaped, and fit inside jockey-type briefs very neatly. For

_mild_ leakage, they work very well.

To fit those pads, I suggest getting briefs with a _real pouch_. There are some

here:

Incontinence is a real pain to deal with. Kegels work for most men, but

progress is slow, measured in months, not weeks.
