Guest guest
That explains why my last post never showed up. It finally appeared as part of Terry's reply as "on behalf of". I don't know what was the red flag that got my message. There wasn't anything particularly indecent in it? To filter messages on any of these prostate support sights seems a bit ridiculous based on some of the subjects we discus. Rick To: ProstateCancerSupport Sent: Tuesday, January 17, 2012 2:24 PMSubject: Delays in posting messages Some of you may have noticed that messages you post are not appearing very quickly. The problem is that the Yahoo Groups servers have spam filters. Those filters appear to be particularly active in stopping the posting of messages that talk about certain male organs and pills used to influence them (I won't name these specifically in order to avoid the filters myself :)If your messages don't appear, be patient. They were probably stuck in a spam filter and will be forwarded on to the group as soon as a moderator sees the spam report and frees up the message.Alan
Guest guest
I don't think the filters are looking for indecency. I think they're just looking for spammers who are blasting out hundreds of millions of messages a day trying to sell impotence pills, "enlargement" procedures, and the like. It's not really required for us because we have a moderated group. We ask everyone to say why they want to join. The spammers, or maybe their computer programs, typically say something like "Hi" or "Let me in", or nothing at all, and we know they're spammers and don't let them in. If a spammer does get in the first spam he sends gets him booted off. That's really the only reason why we ask people why they want to join. We want to distinguish people who want to join from people who just want to sell junk and couldn't care if this were a prostate cancer newsgroup or a recreational kayaking group. Guest guest
I wounder why it's identifying me as spam? This post showed up in my spam folder just like the last two. I've been part of this group for four years and it never happened before? The Internet companies won't publish their spam identification rules for the very good reason that, if they did, the spammers would know exactly how to get around them. However I'd guess it has nothing whatever to do with you personally. I doubt if you're on a blacklist. It's all based on pattern recognition and statistics. I think it's most likely that there were some words, or a phrase, or a pattern of words or phrases, that statistically matched many more spam messages than non-spam messages. The words or phrases might not even have been in the part of the email that you wrote. They could have been in something you quoted. So the filter program marked it as spam. This is a good reason why everyone should check their spam folders from time to time. Sometimes legitimate email gets marked as spam by even the best spam filter programs. Guest guest
I went through a period of supposed “Spam” rejections and finally concluded in the emails I had been trying to send that when I used the letters URL, that seemed to trigger the rejection. However, since that period that was several months ago, I haven’t had that same problem (or we shall see if this gets rejected!). So, as Alan explains, it is more likely some combination of letters or words that triggers the rejection. More likely if you re-word your email, it will get through. Shoot, I get emails with some pretty foul words from old Navy shipmates (you know – swears like a sailor), and they seem to get through with no trouble at all.
