Guest guest
Hi :Dr. "Snuffy" Myers supports the Mediterranean Diet. Less red meat, more fish, vegetables. It is also a "heart healthy" diet in general. It's work looking into. Good luck, To: ProstateCancerSupport From: t-jay130@...Date: Wed, 12 Oct 2011 16:21:17 +0000Subject: New member questions I'm a new member scrambling for an overview of how to aggressively halt or reverse the bad PSA numbers so that my loved one has a chance of getting a better reading in 3 months. Thank you for this link, Alan. As I was searching the archives, Georgia Sam's posts struck me as especially noteworthy. I'm raising kids, working, and trying to find prostate information. I'm not sure I have time to read the whole book, but I'll try. Can someone point me to an eating plan that you feel supports prostate health? I'm leaning toward Esselstyn, Fuhrman, McDougall... Are you altering your personal care products to the non-scent variety or dropping them completely. With breast cancer, the man-made scents are considered estrogenic. Which of you has information regarding keeping the prostate and reversing the PSA numbers? I'll keep searching the archives too. Thank you. If you could post any information about his PSA and Gleason score, and any treatment he has already had and is currently receiving, some of the people here may be able to give more advice. You mentioned liking Georgia Sam's postings. He is a member of the group again. I don't know how closely he monitors the group but he may see your postings and be able to answer any questions. I think the key thing in dealing with cancer is to get the best medical expertise that you can. If you tell us what area of the country you are in, someone may know of a doctor in that area who is particularly good. Best of luck. Guest guest
Thank you Theresa, not sure if this will get posted on the PCS list Alan describes me as a " past member " .. hmm ) but here we go anyway. About the book - let me know if you cannot get a copy and I will send you one. Diet ?I tend to think more in terms of overall lifestyle. Prostate cancer does not like exercise, so do exercise. If on any kind of castration therapy (Zoladex, Lupron, Casodex and so on) then fatigue will be an issue. Just exercise as much as possible at a rate that does not completely exhaust. Try to avoid red meat, eggs and dairy but go for high protein. Fish is OK, so is vegetable protein. [For example soy or pea protein isolate. I am not too happy with whey protein isolate because the milk may contain growth factors.] After exercise have a protein shake and rest. Get 8 hours decent sleep. If necessary use sleeping tabs. Sleep is a great healer even if it is 'forced'. Stay positive, go with the intent to recover. Visualise getting well. See " Adam " on www.dreamhealer.com I take a general mineral supplement from Holland and Barret, and vitamin D. Vitamin D supplementation is particularly important for men on castration therapy because they do not metabolise natural sources very well. LEF do a good deal for vitamin D as cholecalciferol. I have no financial interest in LEF (Life Extension Foundation). IMO mushroom nutrition promotes fast PSA fall-off on castration therapy. Coriolus Versicolor powder 500 gm tubs from MRL make a good bulk buy. Again I have no financial interest in recommending MRL (Mycology Recearch Limited). A couple of in-line comments below.~~~~~~ I'm a new member scrambling for an overview of how to aggressively halt or reverse the bad PSA numbers so that my loved one has a chance of getting a better reading in 3 months. With breast cancer, the man-made scents are considered estrogenic. Which of you has information regarding keeping the prostate and reversing the PSA numbers? If you are not already on any hormone altering medications (including dutasteride / finasteride) then check your testosterone and DHT, SHBG and estrogen. You ideally want high androgen numbers and low estrogen numbers. I'll keep searching the archives too. Thank you. Guest guest
At the 'Summit to End Prostate Cancer' Dr Mark Moyad boiled it down to this; if you eat 'heart healthy' you are eating 'prostate healthy' for the most part. 6 1/2 years ago I switched to a pseudo Mediterranean diet: - little to no dairy - very little red meat - fresh veggies - fresh fruit - beans, dark green veggies (brocolli, kale, spinache etc.)- more fish Not only did I lose nearly 60 pounds, cancer aside I feel better than I have in years! > You mentioned liking Georgia Sam's postings. Guest guest
I just completed the cycles, no problems other than a slight fever and fatigue after the cells put back in, will get a PSA test soon, I also would like to hear from others on the effectiveness. Other than having to sit still for 3 hours, the procedure is painless and side effects are minimal.

Guest guest
You could read, but you have an IV in each arm, I watched TV or listened to my head phones. I am on Lupron, but my PSA has started to rise, this is the next step before using the next set of hormone blockers.
