Guest guest
Starting with the March 25th issue, Oncology Times has been publishing a free-access multipart article on the current state of proton therapy for cancer treatment (all cancers, not just prostate). It seem to be a fairly objective discussion of the controversy over the cost vs effectiveness of proton treatment in comparision to x-ray IMRT. Included is the statement that Mass General Hospital and the Univ. of Pennsylvania have submitted a $10 million grant to conduct the first randomized clinical trial comparing protons to IMRT for prostate cancer. If funding is secured, it will be several years before the results would be available. All articles in the series have free access. The last article in the series will be the May 25th issue.
