When you had your ear tubes put in, were you given any antibiotics before,

during or after surgery? Do you remenber any pills, capsules or having an

antibiotic added to your IV, if you had one. If so, do you remember what

kind you had? The reason that I ask is because 80% of people with

rheumatic diseases (and again, I'm new to RP and don't know how it fits into

this puzzle) suffer from a Jarish-Herxheimer reaction shortly after they

start the antibiotic regimen. The " Herx " is a temporary worsening of the

pain and discomfort of a patient. What is happening is that as the

mycoplasma organisms die off, they create toxins that cause additional pain

on top of everything else.

The Herx can be looked at in a positive manner, however. It means that the

antibiotics are working to rid the body of the disease causing organisms and

that more and more doctors are discovering this relationship. You might

want to call Dr. Trentham, if possible, and see what he has to say. I will

ask Dr. Franco when I go to California this week for my yearly appointment.

(My local doctor sees me the rest of the year.)

Take care and try to get through this trying period by resting as much as

you can. Let your body try to get itself back in order. I will pray for

you. Keep us posted when you can. Through the rheumaticonelist I have

an informal list of doctors who are familiar with the various rheumatic

diseases and who understand the connection between them. I would be glad to

share this with you. In what state do you live?

hugs and concern,

Thanks, Deb. I don't know how reliable my source was, I'm glad it

works for you. I hear it's one of the best-tasting of the protein

powders.
