OK Gill, I'm game. I vote for " The Ellen " by Canadian folksinger Stan . It is about a group of sailors who recover a wrecked ship from the bottom of the ocean for no other reason than they loved " her. " " So no matter what you've lost Be it a home, a love, a friend, like the Ellen Rise Again! " I encourage everyone to listen to the song -- it is very uplifting. It is on several of his albums, but the version I recommend is on " Live Between the Breaks. Guest guest
Allayne, thank you for the Neil Diamond tip. I really like him. I think its time to listen to the songs that make me happy and bring back fond memories. I'm going to dig him out of the dust. I too love children, especially babies. I am presently crocheting a baby blanket for my friend. She has a 3 year old boy. When I a down I go over there. They really cheer me up. Then like you said, when I have enough I go home. Good idea. I might go visit her tonight. ----Original Message Follows---- From: " Allayne LaValley " <kenlav@...> Reply- egroups egroups Subject: [ ] Music Date: Thu, 13 Apr 2000 14:55:07 -0000 Wow, , I consider 50's music as my era. That really dates me. If you are having a bad day, try listening to the score of athan Livingston Seagull by Neil Diamond. I close my eyes and I can soar, too. It is amazing how music can help us cope with pain. Guest guest
This is interesting. It must have something to do with beats / rhythm. I was just listening to a program on NPR that focused on music used in depression maintenance. Off the track but in terms of music and listening, I try to get Wiley to dance with me to different types of music, sometimes rockabilly or other simple stuff. I'll let him stand on my feet since doing it that way teaches him how I'm moving my body to a beat of the music and seeing him when he " gets " that beat too is a real treat, I think for him too because so much is unpredictable for him. Like one day his mouth is on his side and he can eat easily and get out his little vocabulary of sounds and whatnot and isn't tripping over lint, then the next it's all flown the coop on him. So it's a nice, reliable outlet. Betsy >From: aigjr@... > >Hi and all, we did tomatis which is a listening program, and did find >great progress from it. Yes, I think there is even an official term for this - " aural fatigue " or something like that. I think it's due to the encoding algorithms -- I encode my own MP3's and find that I have no problem with higher bitrates and constant bitrate encoding, but the lower bitrates and variable encoding rates are the ones that cause problems.
