Rob, I'm sorry to hear about your Dad's condition. If and when he has exhausted all of the possible treatments, there are still things to do that can make a difference in his life. One is to line up good palliative care. If he develops bone pain or debility, Alpharadin may reduce the pain, improve his ability to get around, and even prolong his life a bit. External beam radiation can also be used to reduce pain and improve mobility. Good pain medication administered by an expert in cancer pain can make a world of difference in quality of life. If he becomes disabled by the cancer, a good hospice can help him live a more comfortable life. If your Dad is willing to try clinical trials, he can find most of them at: http://cancer.gov/clinicaltrials Trials are unlikely to save his life. Most new drugs for prostate cancer have turned out to have limited benefit. But it is possible that he could get some benefit and certain that he will be contributing to research that might one day save many other people. Your Dad may have many things that he wants to do in the time remaining to him, from writing memoirs, to labeling old photos, to visiting places or people he wants to see. It's a good time for all of us to think about those things but an especially good time for a person in your father's condition. And of course he should have all of his legal and financial affairs in order. Best of luck to him and to your family. Alan
