Mac was his name and he was the first man I knew to have PBT (Proton Beam Therapy) back in 1996. He was a Marine helicopter pilot in a previous life and was now a brain surgeon with a good sense of humor. Last I heard of him was about six or seven years after his therapy and I asked him how he was going. “All’s well”, was his response, “but then if you jump off a ten storey building, all’s well as you fall past the sixth floor.
