Guest guest
Hello Kathy, One study I read gave an excess of about 10% for female cancers among woman with any kind of hyperthyroid condition. Coincidently, another lady in my daughter's nursery school has just been diagnosed with Graves...she had cervical cancer 3 years ago. Perhaps the chemo could bring it on, but I am sure I had it (Graves) for 30 years prior to diagnosis. An animal study I read was intriguing. Hyperthyroid rats had their cancers grow like gangbusters compared to a control group. However when hyperthyroid rats who were given Tapazole, it slowed or even stopped their cancers. A Canadian study showed that 30 % of the women with breast cancer in a certain study had TSABS compared to 10 % of controls. However, the women with TSABS had much better outcome than the women without, indicating that they may not need as extensive a set of treatments. I wonder how many women could be spared the misery of a cancer diagnosis if we knew if there was a connection between thyroid disease and cancer. Because I was losing weight quickly ( 20 lbs in 5 months),felt very sick, and had abnormal liver and bone numbers, the doctor I was seeing a year ago thought my cancer had returned and I would soon die. Problem was, they couldn't find the site of the metastasis. So they decided to wait it out. Miraculously I improved, in fact 4 months later I felt completely well. I went to another doctor and 48 hours later found out that my T4 was 17.5. So much for being completely well...I can only imagine how high it was when I was sick. I had no idea what T4 or Graves was before I was diagnosed. I wonder if other problems are also associated with Graves.
