Guest guest
.. And after my visit with DrCotton, I really felt the lack of hope. The truth of the fact that NOTHING can be done to cure this disease, and I'm stuck with it. I go thru periods of feeling like this, but I'm still not totally sure I need the anti-depressant. Sorry I got kind of long winded there, but I guess that happens when you go for so long without being able to vent. Thanks for listening. Diane hi diane. i know what you mean - but i keep reminding myself that i could have a lot worse illnesses that would end my life quickly. i told my mom - i can walk, i can talk, i can hear, i can see. i'm already ahead of a lot of people, even with this problem. i'll be thinking about you! debbie s. Guest guest
Hi Diane, I am realtivly new to this group, I am not a sufferor of this terrible disease but someone so very close to my heart is. I just want to say that your post really irritated me. I am getting pretty sick of these pompous ass doctors making all this money to tell you the same thing everyone else has already told you or tried to do to you. I would think that there would be a couple dedicated physicians out there somewhere that It is there mission in life to find a cure for this god awful disease. I am sorry for venting but just please know my heart goes out to each and everyone of you and I will pray for the day the find a cure for My lady and all of you. God Bless and I am wishing everyone a pain free day. Leon

Guest guest
Hi everybody!! Well, I'm back from ton after a visit with my pancreatic specialist at MUSC (Dr.Cotton). I have to say I was disappointed to say the least. All he had to offer was starting on one of the new arthritis drugs in hopes that the anti-inflammatory effects will help the pain. I also increased the Viokase to 6 with meals from 4. He wants me to have an MRCP here at Vanderbilt and have them use CCK to get a better picture. CCK is the same thing they use for the HIDA scans. I guess he doesn't think the ducts are blocked or he would have done an ERCP there, although he said the procedures they have tried by endoscopy have not made a long enough improvement to consider doing them again. And they make me so sick, it doesn't make it worth it. If the ducts are blocked, I will probably have to go back down there to get them unblocked...oh bother!! I also asked him about surgery and he said the one with the cell transplant starts out with good results, but not long term results. He said diabetes eventually develops anyway because the cells cannot continue to live in the liver, they begin to die off after a period of time. Any other surgery than taking out the pancreas completely is of no use either. I have heard that some people have had the Peustow and had good results, but I guess that isn't the majority of the results. I also talked with the psychiatric nurse liason there and she really thinks I should be on an anti-depressant. The most dangerous sign of depression is the loss of hope. And after my visit with DrCotton, I really felt the lack of hope. The truth of the fact that NOTHING can be done to cure this disease, and I'm stuck with it. I go thru periods of feeling like this, but I'm still not totally sure I need the anti-depressant. Guest guest
Karyn, I have been gone for quite awhile, but am anxious to get any info on the symposium. I read that Dr. Lehman and Ann Koechel spoke. I'm so sorry I missed them. They are both wonderful even if Dr. Sherman is the best of all. I guess I'm pretty prejudice about him. I'm afraid I'm going to have to talk with him soon as I have been having problems of late, and they are not disappearing as I always think they will. Please send me any info when you can. sportbroad-Becky

Guest guest
Hi Shirley, We are well aware of the Islet Cell Transplant. She has checked with her doctors and because I suffer from CRS I can't tell you what was the recomendation. I do know that one doctor didn't know that they had been doing this surgery for so long in MN. (I am wondering when he is going to pull his head out of his errr Pocket) lol. Thanks for the info though and please let us know how everything works out with you. Wishing you all a pain free day. Leon
