Guest guest
Sorry to keep you all in suspense and thanks for all the thoughts. I'll just give the bare essentials and send a more detailed account soon :-0 Contractions picked up soon after my email and I was having very strong contractions 5 mins or less apart from about 9am onwards. Used TENS and loads of great support from DH and my friend . Midwife arrived about 1pm. Was very pleased that first VE (at my request) showed me to be 5cm and " very stretchy " . By about 3pm was getting really fed up with it all and asked for gas and air - which just made me sick. So for the rest of the time I just managed with the TENS, holding onto DH, massage and lots of groaning!! Started feeling pushy about 6pm and after trying several different positions eventually delivered Ceri Davies weighing in at 6lb 5oz at 8.15pm. 3rd stage took another 1h 10 mins. I was totally knackered but no stitches (hooray) just one small tear - my worst problem is awful piles :-( . So basically a 12 hour labour - normal for a first one and as DD1 was c/s for failed induction this was effectively a first labour. I'm so pleased I managed to do it and at home too. I'm sure if I'd been in hospital it would have been much harder and I would have been begging for an epidural! Ceri is absolutely georgeous - was very pink and calm when born. She just layed on my chest looking around for ages. When we've put some photos up I'll tell you all but for now I think I'll go no mail for a few days - *see* you soon.
