Guest guest
Hi Harriet: It's a tough situation to watch the man you love not have an appetite. Sometimes, appetite's just disappear, and re-appear without rhyme or reason. It may be a symptom of depression, or simply, a very reasonable response to an emotionally draining situation. That said, may I suggest, what we here in the States call, smoothies. Place milk, fruit, juice, whatever he may like, along with a few ice cubes, into a blender and blend away. Milk shakes of ice cream and milk and maybe even powdered malt are also good. While milk is usually not suggested for guys with prostate cancer, I think a few cups of cool deliciousness will go far towards elevating your man's mood and nutrition.DarrylDarryl MitteldorfSubject: Lack of appetite in Advanced Prostate CA. How to find appealing foods. To: ProstateCancerSupport Date: Tuesday, May 11, 2010, 8:27 PM My husband ,62, is suffering the symptoms of advanced Prostate CA. He's home from the hospital, after two weeks in-patient. He has double nephrosotomy tubes in place. His kidneys have returned to normal function. He tires easily these days. I am trying to keep an upbeat attitude for him, and do anyting that makes him feel better. His appetite is poor. I give him what he wants to eat, and try to make his meals appealing for him. Any suggestions on what would be some good foods for him?

Here is a publication from the National Cancer Institute on eating problems associated with cancer and cancer treatment: http://www.cancer.gov/cancertopics/eatinghints The links on the left side of the page give ideas for handling various types of eating problems, and suggestions for foods. Best of luck to you and your husband. Alan
Guest guest
Not much help but one thing my dad really enjoyed was homemade bread. Up to the end the smell and taste was appetizing to him. Sure hope the doctors have something left to try that might be of some help to your husband too. Don't give up.

Guest guest
Harriet -- The BC [Canada] Cancer Agency, and the Canadian Cancer Society both have documents filled with " cancer recipes " -- high-calorie, high-protein, high-fat stuff for people with no appetite, nausea, and so on. Try the BCCA " Decreased Appetite " document here: http://www.bccancer.bc.ca/PPI/copingwithcancer/specificresources/Nutrition.htm and/or contact the Canadian Cancer Society at: Cancer Information Service at 1- and ask for their booklet: .. . . " Eating Well When You Have Cancer " I have the " Eating Well . . . " booklet in front of me. It's 40 pages long. When I read it, I thought: .. . . Anyone who eats like this will weigh 300 pounds !!! But that's just what you need.<g> There's some information online here, but the booklet is better: http://www.cancer.ca/ontario/about%20cancer/coping%20with%20cancer/nutrition.asp\ x or http://tinyurl.com/392qhpu > > My husband ,62, is suffering the symptoms of advanced Prostate CA.
