Guest guest
Reply to Woods: You asked about a s Minister. A SM is a lay person trained to help others in time of need such as hospitalization, grief, death & dying, depression, shut in, divorce, childbirth, and etc. We are trained to LISTEN as our care receivers share their thoughts, concerns, fears and etc. We offer hope, encouragement and friendship and everything is confidential. I have been doing this for 3 years now. And it has been more rewarding to me that I can tell you. I often reap the reward of feeling good about what I have given to people. But I have also discovered the greater benefits of helping others, and the blessing of receiving as well as giving. This program is offered through my church and has also strengthened the congregation as there are many of us trained and willing to help at any time. A person in need will contact the pastor and he will asign a SM to that care receiver. We have continuous training and supervision by the pastor twice a month. It is a very rewarding volunteer thing to do. I have also been on the receiving end of this ministry. This past summer when I was so sick - and depressed I asked for a SM and got excellent help from my caregiver - she was such a good listener. I could share my most honest feeling about my fears and she really cared. Thanks for your interest!! Barbara from SD

Guest guest
This does sound very rewarding Barbara. How often are you called on? Have you ever gotten really depressed over any situation you were involved with? >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Reply to Woods: You asked about a s Minister.
