Guest guest
Hi Terry, add these to the list of hypo from over medicating: Joint pain, muscle aches, puffiness of eyes, face, hands and feet, even higher cholesterol levels, sleepiness, but insomnia at night, depression, sometimes panic attacks, irregular heartrate ( bradycardia) and just out and out feeling like you can't get moving. Elaine is right I would rather not be a slug being hypo. Give me slightly hyper symptoms anyday! At least you can function..... Guest guest
Terry, I was on Prozac for 6 weeks, 2 years ago because my second endo (fired him too) told me it would help take off the weight...took off 16 lbs and felt like crap so I quit it cold turkey...NOT the thing to do with that family of drugs! I just remembered another hyper symptom...my mind is working slow lately but you reminded me of it...when I was at my worst hyper, for about 3/4 months I was broke out in what looked like little measles over my whole torso and upper arms and upper legs, angry red things that itched like heck and when scratched burned even worse. Soon as I started the PTU (was on for only a few weeks before RAI) they went away. The dr. said it was because of my rapid heart beat which also caused congestive heart failure for me. Guest guest
, Thanks for this. I'm keeping the list off-line and adding anything that comes to me (thanks Elaine for your addition too). I'll re-enter it here updated every few days, maybe as it grows it will jog some memories. I realize I forgot a few on my original list, blotchy itchy hips (pre-ATD's) and constant phlegm in my throat at night trying to get to sleep (now). One thing I'm curious about though, with regard to RAI--on another list it seemed everyone was on anti-depressants post RAI. Is that common? Guest guest
Terry, I am not sure about the majority on the anti-depressants but I am 6+ years post RAI and am not on them. I also do not have a lot of the symptoms (thank God) that others talk of after taking the RAI route. Then again I do fight the weight battle and such more so then before. Now as for your symptom list - been there and done that. Terry Stone
Guest guest
You should use the database tables at egroups for this record - /database/graves_support </database/graves_support> . Just click add a table and then decide what type you want to use. You could create a table for each stage of symptoms. Also, you all could really get a lot of good use out of the polls. Just some thoughts.... Jen, Sis w/ GD 29/25 symptom list Hi everyone, I don't know if anyone but me is interested in this little project, but I thought it would be helpful to have a cumulative list of personal symptoms that coincide with each stage of GD we've experienced, from pre-treatment to life on ATD's or after RAI or surgery. My thought is that we could each add to it, and keep it updated with all the bizarre stuff that happens if it does, and use it as a simple reference tool to answer some of the questions that come up. I've started the list, but I'm sure I've forgotten half the stuff I should put on it. I'd love to see it grow. I especially suspect the list will grow from those who have had RAI, and that part will be very helpful to newly diagnosed folks contemplating the choices they have to make, under pressure from zap-happy endos. So, here's my beginning. Feel free to make it grow! Guest guest
I now must lie on my side to prevent being awakened by " snorting " -- not snoring -- in my early sleep. Guest guest
When I went searching for material to counteract my endo's push toward RAI, one of the first symptoms I hit was " depression " and the suggested inability to adequately function after RAI. I was stunned. I am a widow, live alone. What on earth is on a doctor's mind (so-called " specialist " <smirk>), when there is no mention of the possibility of inability to act and react after RAI? He suggested that it could be taken care of. More medicine? How long? Who is going to pick up my slack while I am sunk in depression? Stupid! Guest guest
Terry, That constant phlegm you mention reminds me of how I feel after eating wheat or dairy. Before I figured this out I used to be nauseated alot. When I cheat, the phlegm is back and my allergies go wild. Since gluten sensitivity is so common in GD, you might want to see if eliminating gluten (wheat, rye, barley, and oats) helps with this. Guest guest
Elaine, I dread hearing that kind of advice, as my entire work world is FOOD, I teach cooking and also cater weddings etc. Recipe testing and tasting are huge parts of my days! I'm working on a menu for an all-dairy bat mitzvah at the moment. Of course just about everything they want has wheat in it too. Yikes, life is complicated. I'll give it a try though, I am going off to visit my daughter for a week and won't have to feed anyone (except her occasionally). Do you think that would be long enough to notice results? Guest guest
Yes, I noticed results within a few days. I lost weight, quit having food cravings, and quit having sinus drainage. I plan on buying some almond flour one of these days so I can make almond cookies.

Guest guest
Hi Terry- Another thing I've noticed is that I get " phlegmy " when my T3 starts to wear off. And it goes away within an hour of taking my thyroid hormone. I think it can be a sign of hypothyroidism too. But if it is you'd have other symptoms too. Guest guest
Dear Terry This is a great idea, good on ya. Could I add to the list - Pre ATDs High Blood Pressure Difficulty exercising and walking up stairs Miscarriage Infertility Longer between cycles with shorter and lighter menstruation Generalised itchy skin Total intolerance to heat Higher body temperature Increased perspiration (I had very sweaty smelly feet which improved with ATDs) Lowered libido Increased number of bowel motions (up to 8 per day) Loss of hair and lack of lustre of hair Low cholesterol level Symptoms I've had since, but I don't know if they are associated with becoming hypo on ATD's or the GD Aching joints, especially elbows, knees, wrists and fingers. Sensations of 'fire' going through bones that lasts about 8hrs or so and target the one area, eg 1 finger. Feelings of depression and easily being overwhelmed Intolerance to stress Difficulty with physical activity I'll let you know about the post surgical symptoms as time goes by.
