My cousin lost weight by cutting a small amount off of her servings, not

alot, she never starved, but she drank grapefruit juice and ate grapefruits

everyday along with her meals. It worked, don't know why, but it did. I

love pink grapefruit, and pink grapefruit juice. Eat/drink it all the time.

I have never had a weight problem, thankfully, since being over weight is

bad with CMT, makes us work harder getting ourselves around. Well its

unhealthy for anyone. Not just us. Good luck, ~>Becky M.

Oh great advice. I have no clue how to diet. I started walking at night with

my husband. The weather has been bad for 2 days so we didn't go. I will be

adding up my calorie in take starting today. How do I know how many calories

I am burning when I am exercising? Thanks

Good idea Becky. Grapefruit assists the bodies thermogenesis and is an

effective fat burner.

, be careful with the fruit. Eat it in small amounts, too much fruit

will spike your blood sugar and make you hungry.

Also keep your protein intake high. When you alter your diet, your bodies

perception is that you are starving it. It reacts by storing precious fat

and by consuming muscle tissue first. Four or five small meals during the

course of the day usually work better than 3 large meals. It also helps if

you determine how many calories you are consuming on a daily basis.

I have had great success with a daily food journal. I write down everything

I consume, both solid and liquid during the day.

By doing this I can accurately keep track of how many calories I consume.

The average human being must burn 3500 calories to lose one pound of

bodyfat. Experiment a bit and see how many calories you can get by on

without feeling weak etc. If you normally consume 2000 calories a day cut

back to 1700 and in 11 days you will have lost a pound. It will take you

about 11 months to lose your 30 pounds. If you are able to increase your

exercise you will lose it even faster. It can be done. A little science, a

little prayer and a lot of determination. Good luck! You can do it. Keep us

posted.

BC

Today I found a few good websites for counting burned calories. At the speed

I walk I will need to walk 30 days to loose a pound, lol

I added up my calories I had a total of 1040 calories. I am about to go eat

a bowl of cereal as my treat.

We put the pool up this weekend. I have to take it EZ or I can't walk when I

get out of the pool. Thats what bugs me I don't use many calories because of

the CMT. So frustrating.

Hi !

Good luck on your diet! I started Weight Watchers in January and

have lost over 60 lbs. so far. I've been eating lots of vegtables,

with protein and starch 'sprinkled' on top! Plus, as Gretchen

pointed out, lots of water. I've also been trying to walk more (my

feet and legs are still pretty strong - I can go a couple of miles

before the pain gets to me). I wont say it's been easy, but I'm

really seeing the results, which is great.

To Gretchen,

What's this weight page everyone is refering to? Also, I have some

before/during (I'm nowhere nere 'after' yet, but getting there)

images I could post - how do I do that?

,

I find the Weight Watchers program has been very helpful. I already

knew that I should avoid fats, eat high fiber, etc., but their

program makes it easy to put that knowledge into practice. I go with

my office manager so we support each other's efforts (read - moan and

groan about our deprivation!). They provide lots of tools to help

calculate how much you can eat, portion sizes, impact of exercise,

attitude, etc. It also teaches you to eat in the 'real world', as

nothing is off limits - you just have to learn to control quantity

and what the trade offs are.

I hope it's OK that I'm pluggin their program - I don't work for

them, don't have any financial interest in them, etc., but I did want

to share that I have been having succes with them. Obviously, you

have to find what works best for you.

Good luck!

Everybody burns calories at a slightly different rate. Check out this

website. www.soyouwanna.com

it will help you answer many of your questions. Go to the health and

fitness section and then to the section on How To Lose Weight. Keep in mind

that the tables and charts they use are not considering your CMT.

Weight Watchers is a wonderful support group but they do not have any magic

that makes the calories melt and they are in business to make money. They

sell behavior modification and expensive frozen foods. Until you have the

funds for WW use us as your support group. You can do it!

, wow, how great! I'll bet you feel great in body and spirit now that you

are carrying around 60 pounds less!

, good luck in your quest for losing some weight. I am also trying to trim

down. What has been working for me is high protein, low fat and low

carbohydrates. I shed 15 pounds, without exercising, by trying to keep the carb

count under 30 grams per day. This meant giving up potatoes, pasta, rice,

breads, cookies, crackers, sugar, fruits, juices, sweets and milk. I eat all

the meat, fish, poultry, cheese, bacon and eggs that I want along with salad and

vegetables and sugarless Jello. Also, a few almonds, pistacio nuts or macadamia

nuts as a snack. I stay away from carrots and beets as they are very high in

sugar. I also got some of the low carb protein bars. If I have a piece of

fruit or starchy food, I have a two-hour separation from my protein meal. The

protein staves off hunger and is very satisfying. I slacked up on watching the

carbo count for two months to do the L-Carnitine experiment. Are you listening,

Lamar? I gained back a few pounds so I do not think that L- Carnitine lives up

to it's hype. Check the posts from a few months back for that discussion. So

it is back to watching ththe carbs! I also take chromium picolinate, when I

remember (to speed up metabolism) , mutivitamin and calcium supplements. I

have been told that CMT causes a larger percentage of body fat to lean muscle

mass and is a contributing factor to a slower metabolic rate. This gives you

something else to add to your confusion! Keep on hanging in there! I support

you all the way!

I have a stationary bike and an Ab-doer. I need to get better acquainted with

them! I did walk around the block after work tonight. Good luck , I'll be

watching your progress.

  • 2 years later...

Many of us would die to have that problem! Seriously though, it has been my

experience that to lose weigh one must go low fat and low carb at the same time.

It looks like that is what you are doing. Apparently you are not eating any

grains. See if you can find a grain that you can eat. Brown rice or perhaps

one of the lesser known grains that are only in health food stores. Eat more

fruit to increase your sugar (carb) intake. Bananas are very rich! To increase

your fat I might suggest adding olive oil to your diet. Home made oil and

vinegar salad dressing can be excellent (just add a few spices olive oil water

and vinegar).

I have over a years experience with Weight Watchers where I lost 75 LB, in nine

months (not the way some women I know lost weight in nine months) :) Any

advice I can give on losing weight or alternately not losing weight I will give

freely. Incidentally, I had my first major exacerbation shortly after reaching

my WW goal weight (the stress of the last few pounds was tremendous!)

Hi All,

I know that this is going to seem like a stupid question to a lot of you, but I

am seriously concerned. My husband is also very concerned. I started the roy

swank diet in May. then in July I found out that I am allergic to a lot of

foods, so I eliminated them in my diet. So mainly all that I am eating is

chicken, fish, fruits and vegetable. I eat plenty of theses foods and am never

hungry, but I have dropped 23 pounds and I can't seem to stop the weight from

coming off. I don't have much that adds calories to me. I have gone from a size

14 to an 8. I don't want to go any lower. But I don't know how to stop it. Has

any of you done the same thing? Does your body eventually stop loosing? Does

anyone have any suggestions?

I shouldn't complain because I am feeling really great with a lot of energy.

Please help if you can because I think that I need to stay away from all those

foods for health sake. One other time, I was on the roy swank diet and had to

go back because I was loosing too much.

Thanks for your advice. I don't want to go into an exaserbation. I

am eating cereal a lot. I eat cherrios and that has one gram of sugar

which I am not suppose to have. But I am lost to what I can have at lunch,

so I have cereal a lot. I am sick of salads everyday at lunch. I already

eat a lot of fruit but what happens when the winter comes and I can't get

the great fruit as plentiful. I can't eat bananas or vinegar because of the

allergies to them. I have cut down on pasta because of the allergy to white

flour. But you make sense when you say olive oil. Maybe I need to up the

olive oil in my diet.

Thanks for your advice and if you think of any other ways to keep the weight

on please pass it on.LOL

Marie, I read 's post and olive oil is a good idea. Don't cook

with it, though; cooking it changes it into trans fats. You could add

avocadoes, tahini (sesame butter) and almond butter. All are high in

good (unsaturated) fats. One thing about chicken and fish: make sure

you buy " clean " from a health food store so you aren't eating

antibiotics and growth hormones. Fish: don't buy farm-raised and given

the mercury/MS connection, check out this website:

http://vm.cfsan.fda.gov/~frf/sea-mehg.html

Adding grains are a good idea; millet, brown rice and quinoa (a

high-protein Peruvian grain). Millet and rice are available in breads,

also rice crackers. Wheat and corn (also peanuts, a legume) are

problematic because of sensitivity and fungus questions.

Doing the morning smoothie that we talked about will add calories too.

If you are losing more than a couple pounds a week you may

be doing damage (why is everybody in such a goldern *hurry*?).

Starvation causes your body to produce endorphin, as a kind

of consolation prize (oh, well, you didn't run fast enough, and you

lost your hatchet, but you'll catch him next time and have a nice

dinner). That's why bulemia and anorexia are addictive behaviour.

(Maybe LDN can help them too.) You may feel better and be worse.

The problem I have always had with diets is that they seem to

work great for many months and I am feeling OK, but then for some

reason all the weight (or more) comes back faster than I took it off.

My metabolism seems very reactive to changes in food supply,

either on or off. Like you, I have to admit I ate very healthy

foods, but a lot less food. It seems self administered metabolic

changes are among the hardest things to do permanently, without

causing other grief. Refined foods are my biggest diet problem,

as far as I know.
