The two main salvage procedures discussed were salvage radical prostatectomy and salvage cryotherapy. The ideal candidate for salvage local therapy after radiation therapy is a patient with preradiation and

presalvage clinical stage T2 or less, preradiation Gleason score of 7 or less, presalvage Gleason score of 8 or less, PSA <10 ng/ml, and androgen-dependent disease. The complications of salvage radical prostatectomy in recent series included rectal injury, urinary fistula, bladder neck contracture, and incontinence. In addition to salvage radical prostatectomy, additional procedures might be necessary in patients with small capacity bladders, such as primary bladder closure and appendicovesicostomy, bladder augmentation, and Monti procedure.
