Guest guest
I bought an alpha-stim recently for healing and pain management of my broken ankle ( 3 surgeries in two years). I have been so impressed that I have become a distributor. The CES is FDA approved for insomnia, depression, and anxiety. When I lhave let distressed clients use it, they report extremely positive results - more calm. The CES unit alone involves ear clips and the CES/pain management unit includes electrodes for specific pain areas - such as my ankle plus the ear clips. The alpha-stim people point out that anyone in chronic pain will experience some type of depression/anxiety. Also the CES unit appears to be very helpful for fibromyalgia folks. I think it is a really good product. Mershona Parshall LISW
Guest guest
Light-sound machines are used with neurofeedback. I don't know that it matters which machine. Soutar talks about using AVE in his short but very useful book, Doing Neurofeedback. I use it with some clients. Please feel free to call me at (773) 807-0936. Kathy Abbott, Psy. D. Chicago Re: Bursts of high beta and gamma Dear and Mark, Thank you for helpful suggestions. I initially considered the hypothesis of epileptiform activity and asked for any history of seizures or unusual sensations/behaviours/absences etc. Interestingly the girl answered that she has had an episode of uncontrollable shaking following very severe punishment by her father, but the parents had not seen any evidence of epileptic activity. The unusual bursts of high frequency activity has happened several times, always on the right side of the head. I have checked that the girl is actually present when it happens by asking her if she feels any different as it happens or if she is tightening her jaw etc. She hears me and answers the question by " No, I don't feel any different, and no, I am not tightening any muscles or doing anything different. " I have observed high frequency activity from muscle tension in other patients, but this looks much less dramatic than the bursts I am talking about here. Regardless of whether this is muscle tension on the head or epileptiform activity, Mark's suggested treatment protocol sounds reasonable. The only thing I was concerned about is whether training up lowbeta could slow down her brainwave activity even more, as high amplitude theta and delta waves is the predominant pattern apart from the high amplitude high beta and gamma bursts. She does not have excessive high frequency activity in the temporal lobes, but she does have little power in lowbeta in most places. (, I used the Brainmaster - 2 channel recording.) I dont know what equipment you are using or how many channels your are recording, but if this pattern (as described)were seen on a routine clinical EEG recording there is the possibility that it could be among other things an absence (petit mal) type issue or one of the variants. Again, I am making this speculation (not a diagnosis) solely based on your description of the EEG and the accompanying symptom complex. This of course could be confirmed from a consultation with a neurologist and the administration of a clinical EEG. I would be interested to hear how this case turns out. > > Regards > > M.
