Guest guest
Hi Esther, Normal " allergy " dosage of zyrtec is 10 mg. once a day. But for urticaria there are medical journal articles which suggest double the normal dosage of 10 mg. was rxd 10 mg in the morning and 10 at night. And 150 zantac in the morning and 150 at night. Guest guest
Myra- Are you aware at all of any success of the Z/Z combo. with Delayed Pressure Urticaria? I've taken both but seperately with no response, of course. Any insight would be appreciated. Thank You.
Guest guest
Hi Esther, One zyrtec per day is just the recommended dose so your pharmacist was right to point that out to you. I'm on two per day on my doctor's suggestion, and so are a few others on this list . I take one in the morning and one at night though, rather than two at the same time. I do the same with the zantac - one in the morning and one at night. dosage of Zyrtec > What is the normal dosage for Zyrtec? Guest guest
Thanks, Myra. I'm wondering if it's more effective to divide the drug into morning and evening doses, as does (contrary to my doctor's opinion), or if it's better to take the whole thing at once. Any ideas? Guest guest
- Does taking zyrtec in the morning make you tired all day? I take 10mg at night... which helps some. The Dr told me to take it in the evening because it could make me tired. I always take it right before bed, so I don't really know if it makes me tired, or if I'm just sleeping because it's night time. Thanks, Billie --- Houghton wrote: > Hi Esther, > > One zyrtec per day is just the recommended dose so > your pharmacist was right > to point that out to you. Guest guest
I take Zyrtec in the AM and PM....I just started this recently and YES it makes me tired.I would rather be tired than swollen and itchy
Guest guest
About dividing dosage of z and z. It would stand to reason that if you took meds every 12 hrs instead of every 24 hrs that there would be less of a " wear off " time. Hope this helps, Hugs Myra
Guest guest
, I think this is a mixed bag........I have heard of someone who did get better with DPU and using zyrtec and zantac. I also heard of someone who got better with DPU using an herb. I think it really depends on the person. But nothing ventured nothing gained, right? :-) Hugs, Myra

Guest guest
My doctor said that taking more than the prescribed amount doesn't help any more. The concentration of what you are taking doesn%27t increase. Cos these are supposed to be next gen antihistamines the dosage is lower and safer. >From: esthers.1@... >Reply-To: urticariaegroups >To: urticariaegroups >Subject: dosage of Zyrtec >Date: Sun, 9 Jul 2000 01:16:15 -0400 > >What is the normal dosage for Zyrtec? Guest guest
Do you think Zyrtec increases your appetite? I have been trying to get off it so I could lose some weight. Maybe that's not the problem. Just thought I'd ask. Guest guest
Pat and others: Hi! Barb, just plain old (well not that old) Barb here. I don't post often but when I do I have mentioned before that my DR has told me that one of the chief complaints of people on long term antihistamine use is weight gain. He believes it alters our metabolism. I have taken Zyrtec (Reactine in Canada) for each outbreak of hives I've had. I usually break out July/August for the last 4 years.(Keep your fingers crossed...I've only had one big hive in the corner of my eye back on July 3rd but nothing since) Last year I broke out July 4th but the other years have been early August. I take 10 mg. twice a day. I do notice I'm a little more tired when I take it but otherwise manage OK. I know someone who only has to take 5 mg to be wiped off their feet. She must fall in to that 10% that someone mentioned. When I first developed the hives and was on Zyrtec and Prednisone I gained approximately 25 lbs. over 3 months. I was only on Prednisone for 19 days and had severe side effects from it. My first outbreak was 8 months and once I got off the Zyrtec I did lose about half of the weight I put on. I'm happy with where my weight is now and feel I'm probably at a healthier weight than I was when I first started with this. With each remission I am able to stop taking the Zyrtec and when I have another outbreak and start back on the Zyrtec I find my weight creeps up again maybe 7-10 lbs. Each time I stop it my weight settles down again. I'm grateful that I am able to stop taking it when I am in remission but would not be able to live without it when hiving. The Zyrtec has provided me with 100% relief from the itching of the hives within 2 hours once I have it in my system. I can live with the hives themselves as long as I'm not ripping my skin off from itching. Nice (well you know what I mean) to see so many new people on the list. I can't believe the number of Barbara's that are here. Take care everyone Lots of love, hugs and kisses Barb, just plain old Barb, AKA Barbarella May the wind be always at your back. mtnbiker@... mountainbiker41@...
