Guest guest
Are there any treatments that do not effect the amount of ejaculate produced by a man? It would seem not, since everything goes after the prostate itself, but I was curious. Also, are there any treatments that dont have the risk of the side effect of " shrinkage " ? These and other questions.... Thanks guys, Lynn
Guest guest
Lynn,Only surgery is likely to cause shrinkage. Only Active surveillance leaves one with all ejaculate and no shrinkage. All other treatments will effect ejaculate. Surgery leaves none and with radiation it decreases with time. There is an experimental approach called PDT which is in clinical trials in London and I believe Toronto. With that some prostate is left but then again, cancer can be left with it. I tried to get in the London trials two years back but I fell slightly out of their criterion for acceptance. The study was being done at University College Hospital London under the direction of Mark Emberton. The drug used was called Tookad aka WST 111, being produced by a French pharma company. If you do look into photodynamic therapy (PDT) be sure the work is listed in clinicaltrials .gov so you avoid the quacksSubject: Treatment questionsTo: ProstateCancerSupport Date: Wednesday, June 22, 2011, 4:21 PM Are there any treatments that do not effect the amount of ejaculate produced by a man? For me, ejaculate was greatly reduced, potency (erectness or stiffness of the penis) was reduced, and I even acquired some Peyronie's symptoms (internal fibrosis in the penis that causes bending when erect), yet the sensations of sex were surprising unaffected. I derived pretty much the same pleasure both from foreplay and orgasms. I'll let the surgery patients speak for themselves but I've read many similar accounts from them. They had a loss of ejaculate and a reduction or loss of potency, but retained the ability to enjoy sex. Alan
