Guest guest
Hi, gang. I have been feeling a good bit better the last 3 weeks, and was almost feeling confident enough about it to say something to the list, when I noticed a rash coming on. It appears to be a standard drug allergy type rash, and I have quit my prescriptions and supplements until it calms down. I will talk to my doctor about this on Monday, and get his help in formulating a plan to re-introduce items individually, to see what is the cause. I don't think this is a herx rash, because I haven't changed my dosage of mino, but I have recently added a super B-complex. (Is it possible to become allergic to a vitamin? I guess inert ingredients are a possibility.) I think my first guess is that Vioxx will turn out to be the culprit, since I have been allergic to Naprosyen, Daypro and Orudis in the past. I am also taking Soma and Benadryl, so it may take a while to figure this one out. My big concern is that it might turn out to be the minocycline. My doctor has prescribed minocycline because it is the drug used in the MIRA trials, and I'm not too sure how easy it might be to get him to prescribe a different antibiotic. I will wait to see if it is the Vioxx or something else besides the mino before I get too worried about this, but I would be interested to know if anyone else has become allergic to minocycline during the course of treatment. I have been using 100 mg 2x/day for 8 months, and have had very little trouble until this point. I did not herx in the beginning, and had only seen improvement in arthritis symptoms, so seemed to be tolerating the dosage. Any thoughts or suggestions? Guest guest
Hi Something to think about here. I took Soma years ago for a back injury and found it helped a great deal. Then a few years ago my mother injured herself in a fall and the dr. gave her Soma also. She was hurting so badly I was really glad he prescribed it for her. Several days later she called and had developed a terrible rash all over her legs and midsection. It was really scary looking. Come to find out it was the Soma. I don't know how long you've been taking it but just a thought. Hope you find out soon and get some relief. T. Guest guest
Hi Last year, about 6 months after taking 200mg/day Mino, a bad itchy rash appeared on my tight. Firs I suspected food allergy but leaving out different foods from my diet have not helped. I went to a dermatologist who told me that it was drug allergy from the Minocyclin. So I quit taking the antibiotic because I felt cured anyway. It wasn't a good decision because after about four months I flared big time. So I started taking the Mino again, it worked again and guess what, no rash this time. I am on maintenance dose (100mgMWF), feel great and sometimes I became itchy, which indicates me that I have Candida again. Even if I take acidophilus and olive leaf extract, don't eat sugars and gluten, Candida returns sometimes and so does the itching on my tights, tommy. In my opinion ( I'm not a doctor) the itching is caused by the Mino, which causes the yeast infection. Once I get rid of the yeast, the rash disappears. Hope this helps. ________________________________________________________________________ Get Your Private, Free E-mail from MSN Hotmail at http://www.hotmail.com
Guest guest
I have had patches of a rash too and I think Minocin was the culprit. Mine is usually about the size of a ten cent piece and whitish in colour and doesn't itch so you don't realize you have it until you run your hand over the area and realize it is bit rough. I just ignored mine because it wasn't bothering me and you didn't really notice it. I had a problem with Naprosen too but can't recall what it was. Does this mean Vioxx will be a problem? Guest guest
I would guess it's the B complex. I have all sorts of problems taking B vitamins. I'd stop it and see what happens. Also....I had raised whelts for almost a year from my Clindamycin or Minocin....can't remember which and it went away. I guess it was my version of herxing. Donna rheumatic a new rash >Hi, gang. > >I have been feeling a good bit better the last 3 weeks, and was almost >feeling confident enough about it to say something to the list, when I >noticed a rash coming on. > >It appears to be a standard drug allergy type rash, and I have quit my >prescriptions and supplements until it calms down. > >I will talk to my doctor about this on Monday, and get his help in >formulating a plan to re-introduce items individually, to see what is the >cause. > >I don't think this is a herx rash, because I haven't changed my dosage of >mino, but I have recently added a super B-complex. Guest guest
Thanks for all the thoughts on my rash. I guess there is no way I can be sure it's not a toxin rash, but it sure looks like the drug allergy rashes I've had in the past, and I'm not going to take any chances with not stopping the drugs and trying to nail the culprit. It was interesting to hear of the experiences of others with soma allergy and B vitamin rashes. The B vitamins are my most recent addition. I have quit them, too. I've been taking soma for a couple of years, but I understand that a new allergy can develop at any time. Bev, I would not be specifically worried about a Vioxx allergy just because you have had trouble with Naprosen, but my doctors have told me that having an allergy to one NSAID will make you somewhat more prone to developing other NSAID allergies, including Celebrex and Vioxx. Any time I start a new NSAID, my doc starts me out with a sample if possible, because some drugs will immediately cause a cross-reaction. That is what happened with Daypro, but that is the only one which started a drug rash immediately. I don't think this is yeast, because I have had a yeast infection of the skin a few months ago, and it was not nearly this itchy. This is raised red welts. Thanks for the input, and I'll let you know what the culprit turns out to be. I am afraid this one might take some time to figure out, because of all the things I'm taking, Jean
